It's been a fantastic weekend here in Norfolk. The days are getting longer and the nights shorter.

That can only mean one thing ...... Spring is here and it will soon be BARBEQUE time!!!!
Haven't had a BBQ for years at my house. Now, of course, it's a great idea - meat feasts here we come.

Never used to have buns anyway! Or salad. Just meat, meat (and sausages & burgers)!!

Will also give me an added incentive to clear the garden.

(now hungry)

Me too Ted.

I poured scorn on gas fired BBQ's for many years until my Canadian friend got one when I visited her in her new (large) Ontario home. It was out there on the massive decking and was used all the time as an extension to her kitchen. The favourite thing to cook was corn still wrapped in its jacket.
I got a bargain a few years back from B&Q and I LOVE it. It saves smoking out the kitchen when searing a good piece of beef and all the cleaning up too.

Easter weekend should be the first weather permitting

I don't eat meat (except for seafood), and a nice piece of salmon rubbed with herbs and olive oil, then cooked on the bbq 'til the skin turns crispy is sooo nice, along with a glass of white wine, lovely!!

Is it time to get the shorts and summer shoes out of the attic yet?! :D

I don't know where all you guys are situated but I live in south east London and we have been barbecuing and mowing the lawn since mid February!

I struggle to see the point of those gas barbeque things. Do you get a smokey flavour?
But hey I shouldn't knock it until I try it. Having said that I do remember how hard charcoal is to get going! And if it was a bargain well....

Bring on the meat (and fish for Sirzy)!

Looks set to be warm but cloudy this week in Norwich (pronounced Narrrrch)!

In no way rubbing it in - but it will be hot enough for a BBQ over Easter because I'll be on holiday in Sri Lanka!!

Yes Tedster, you have rubbed it in! :)

I was just wondering what you all put on your meat instead of the yummy, but now naughty BBQ sauce?

Make way, grouch coming through...

I hate BBQ's. Well, maybe hate is a strong word but they don't half get on my nerves!

I'm not all that keen on the taste of smokey meat/veg preferring to cook mine in the oven with a load of seasoning but the thing that really gets me is the smell of the BBQ while it is getting ready. Then there is the all pervading smoke that gets everywhere and stinks out the house of anyone that lives within a fairly near radius-the smell lingers for ages!

Right-I've finished moaning now. (For the time being..)

OK, I suppose I had better enter into the (smelly) spirit of the thing.

Tandoori paste mixed with natural yogurt, add some chicken. For bone in meat it can be started off in the oven ( :D ) ande finshed off on the Barbie ( :( ), for piece chicken cut into cubes and thread onto wooden skewers with peppers and some onion.

Soy sauce, fresh ginger and garlic (add fresh chili for a kick) make a lovely marinade for steak, chicken or fish.

Make your own burgers-fresh mince (beef or pork), mixed with onion, a touch of cayenne and some All purpose seasoning. I add a spoonful of stuffing mix for flavour and texture but it isn't essential so low carbers can just leave that part out.
Shaped onto balls and then flattened into patties.

If you have got a 99p store or a "PoundShop" nearby, it is always worth having a look at the food section there. They often have "grinders" with spices in and they are lovely, I would be lost without my chili and garlic grinder.

Thanks 'Whitbyjet' and 'Ladybird'.

I like a good old BBQ but hubby is useless at it. We get black offerings, that's after the fire's put out!

My SIL's good at it so will invite him over.

You can't do that! It's a clear breach of marital ethics and would be clear grounds for divorce in any court in the world.
2 million years of evolution dictate that Man must cook over an open fire.

It's supposed to be burned on the outside and raw on the inside.

Ha ha! Yeah but not when he's produced 3 foot flames, and hearing all the neighbours coughing and spluttering!
It's embarassing.
