soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I've just got back from the Doctor's.
i wouldn't deliberately ask for a Saturday appointment, I'd leave those for working people, but he asked to see me and it was all that was available.
I'd had my blood pressure medicine reduced and BP has now got a little too high, so will have one more tablet added to my list. Was asked to have blood test in 2 weeks to check the medication isn't hurting my kidneys..
then he asked me to step on the scales. I'm really battling with weight. I'm too short sighted to see the dial, but he told me I've lost nearly half a stone since February. I was afraid it would have crept up, even though I have been trying to get more weight off pretty consistently. I keep to the low carb[as my meter confirms] and I never eat to "fullness". I wish I could get a steady weight loss like some people seem to. I have lost in the region of 20Kg over a couple of years and got myself into the "overweight" category of BMI from "obese". If anyone has any useful hints on how to improve the weightloss, I'm willing to listen.

I eat meat, fish, eggs, cheese, veggies, some fruit, very little of baked goods or potatoes, rice or pasta. All food is home cooked from fresh ingredients I exercise about 6 hours per week and I'm out of ideas. I'm hoping not to have to give up my daily one square of dark chocolate

Hi Hana

You may have tried this, so forgive me if you have! Last year I had a stone to lose, and I did it slowly and steadily over 3 months with weight watchers on-line. They often have a special offer on if you are signing up for the first time. What you eat is not restricted, but your daily points are ...your daily points are based upon your BMI, I think, so it is , in effect, calorie counting but not quite as tedious - all foods have points values. There are special treat and extra points but I never took advantage of those. It was not spectacularly fast - it was steady. What I found helpful was the structure of the web site - the fact that I didn't have to go to meetings and felt very independent. You can talk to others as they have a forum quite like this one.It feels quite supportive. The trap that is avoidable is to turn your back upon all the special Weightwatchers products - and as you appear to be cooking from scratch, you wouldn't need those anyway.

I don't know how I'd feel doing it now, as I'm new to coping with diabetes and it's taking all my energy - but what it did was change my eating habits and allow me to burn more calories than I was eating.I haven't put any weight back on - and since taking action with low carbs, I have lost a little more. From what you say, it sounds like you're doing everything you're capable of to lose weight but this might just give you a structure to use..... and the square of dark chocolate wouldn't have to go!!!!!

Just a thought.

Well done on the weight loss Hana

Only thing that worked for me was to cut back on the calories and exercise a wee bit more.

well done

I have upped my total daily calories compared to my pre-diagnosis level, but dropped my carbs considerably, and am walking more. I have lost 2 stones already and am a type 2 diet only.

Well done with the weight loss  I know from previous posts that you have had a stroke, but hat's off to you for getting in 6hours of exercise a week. The only thing I can suggest is trying to reduce your carbs a little bit more if you can, and increase the exercise even if it's only a few more minutes each day. Don't give up the little bit of chocolate you allow yourself, it's going to minimal carbs and minimal calories and we all need a little treat to look forward to each day. Keep up the good work

Brilliant news Hana, and so well deserved. I am certain that wee square of chocolate is safe for you to continue to enjoy.

Thanks Guys
a few good ideas there. I'm going to keep on the low carb and drop them even more. My favourite exercise is walking, but the weather seems to be having it in for me. I got absolutely drenched yesterday walking home after taking Amelie to nursery school at mid day. I had to change all my top half clothes and put my mac into the dryer, before taking the car to collect her later on. it's only about 0.6 of a mile, but stair rods. that is a first for me. i usually walk every where locally.

hi Hana

Well done with the docs, nice surprise.

I've had a thought, well stolen from my sisters sort of trainer really.

Using Nordic Sticks whilst walking aparently it helps you get a more all round cardio workout without perceptively exerting more energy. As well as working you legs (walking) you work out your upper body at the same time (sticks).

So without adding more time to your exercise regime you may find more effective results?

Good idea on the poles Mary. Ihave a pair of nordic poles which Isometimes use whilst hiking. Once Iget my new back pack, I'll use them. Can't when out with the babies, because of pram pushing and hand holding, but otherwise a good idea. Not when out with the dogs either Ijust realise. Nordic poles and leashes don't mix well.
