I've never really had a sweet tooth, don't eat puddings and rarely have sweets around the house, however I've been reading about how eating a few sweets is a good way to boost your blood sugar if it is very low. If this is the case could any kind soul recommended any good (British) sweets to have around in case of emergency? I'm thinking of small, easily pocketable confectionery that I could have with me if I'm out or kept in the car. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Well I'm not on any medications so my BG's don't get too low, so I am assuming you are taking some?

I know some type 1's have mentioned jelly babies are good for hypos

When my husband was put onto glicazide as well as his metformin , he had also started to address his shocking diet . The result was that he suffered several hypo attacks , one of 3.1 and the scary one of 2.6 . Nurse advised to keep a few cartons of orange juice in the fridge and also to give him four or five jelly babies . they worked and very quickly too . Although his meds have been reduced, he keeps a small supply of jelly babies at hand .

Yes jelly babies. I also use glucose tablets Orange lucozade are my other standby when out and about.Probably any jelly type sweet will be high sugar and work quickly.

As above, I always carry glucose tablets with me and have jelly babies beside my bed just in case. They are very fast working and cheap to buy.

Yes, I'm on Metformin, Gliclazide and Ramipril but have not have had any problems thus far. My lowest readings are around 6. However, the tips here have proved to be very useful. Thanks.

Haribo "pinballs". Each one is 5g of carbs, so you couldjyst have 1,2 or 3.
The only trouble is everybody loves them and will steal them if they get a chance!
They are only really available in fairly large bags, but they don't go soft or mouldy or squidgy in heat. They stay the same and are absolutely delicious. The trouble with me is stopping at 3.
Not available in small shops for some reason but Tesco and Asda definitely sell them.
