Got Rid Of Diabetes Type 2 - This Is How

In 3 months time (September 2018)

Not long a wait...
I feel this is where your med free journey actually begins..? With a formal HbA1c representing the start of your personal diet only management regime..

Kind regards.

Yes i was given a blood sugar reading thing when i was told of the condition in January. I check it reguarly and the average reading throughout the day, week, month, last 110 days has been 4.88 when samples are taken on a random basis.

That's an excellent stat, well done!

Does that mean you are having the fast food binge because your recent experience tells you that you can get away with it in terms of blood sugar, or is it just a one-off binge to celebrate, then you'll be back on lower carb food?

Just so you don’t get lulled into a false sense of security, an average of 4.88mmols/l equates to an HbA1c of 27.6. Your HbA1c of 37 equates to an average of 6.2mmols/l. I think your random testing may be missing some spikes somewhere.
I test before and two hours after a minimum of a couple of meals per day and enter my readings into the app MySugr. This app gives an estimated HbA1c based on the readings entered. On my testing regime the estimates have never been far off my lab tests.
Here’s the chart I used to work out your averages and HbA1cs:

@diabetes Free Many congratulations on your success ... enjoy your treat!

Just to let you know that your amazing success IS sustainable! ... I am testament to that.

2 years ago, I was in your shoes and did exactly what you have done, eat healthily and ‘kick the butt’ out of the phys. I have now been free of Diabetes for almost 2 years.... and long may it stay so!

I was your archetypal couch potato who thought his phys and exercise days were behind him and was growing old (very) disgracefully! ...... and paid the price!

Now I’m healthier than I have been for 20 years plus. ALL my ‘vital signs’ are absolutely perfect, and I continue to take full advantage of the yearly MOT I am now kindly offered! ..... pity the didn’t before!

I now love my phys, mostly 2 wheeled (cycling spinning and mountain biking), but also a bit of gym and running - and loads of walking... im now fitter than my 21 and 18 year olds .... they literally can’t keep up! Now in training for my second London 100 bike ride next month.

Diet wise, mostly I do eat VERY healthily - and enjoy it. Yes I have the odd curry, Chinese, kebab etc .... and they taste all the more special now! Booze wise I WAS a committed Lager drinker - (probably part of my downfall), and do still have the odd pint or two - but discovered the world of Gin - now most definately my tipple..... life is definately for living and I’m doing just that !

Good luck my friend. I will honest, I could (and very very occasionally) do enjoy a KFC etc, but I honestly couldn’t even contemplate eating that quantity any more - but enjoy all the same!

Best wishes

H

I would celebrate in an “Eat All You Can ‘Til You Drop Dead (gorgeous) Chinese Buffet” if I were you!

Congratulations!!!!

Hi and welcome @Diabetes Free Now . Not much to add to what has been said, but firstly you have done really well to make such a drastic lifestyle change and you are currently riding the crest of a wave of euphoria! That's fine, but a bit of a cautionary note is needed. Many of us on here had spectacular success initially by making similar changes (and not all of us are over 40) but it is keeping the blood sugar levels down, that is key. Test, test and test. It's the only way to get a full picture. You may well become quite carb sensitive in the months to come, and dietary excursions "off piste" may come back to bite you in the ar$e.
I'd love to hear how your journey progresses, so please stay with us and share. NMD.

I have been given 3 months to lose as much weight as possible before being given medication. I'll let you know how I get on. 76 days to go.

It is amazing to be able to reverse the condition.

Some of us manage it too...without exercise, will power or months long 800 calorie diet...the secret is a low insulin load diet.

Pub grub is one of the easiest eating out choices I think. Choose a meal of predominantly meat and veggies, then swap chips for salad. I often choose gammon steak with egg, salad instead of chips. All day breakfast is a good choice too, bacon, eggs, sausage, mushrooms and tomato are all acceptable, just avoid the hash browns, bread and baked beans!

Thanks for advice are baked beans bad if I don't have a weight issue . would love bubble and squeak but pubs don't serve it.

Baked beans are pretty high carb, even the low sugar versions

well I went for a chicken bacon and avocado salad which was really good, I wasn't I pinched 4 chips from mum's plate but think that is ok for me. had a glass of water whilst staring enviously at my mum's glass of wine and daughter's pint of cider Grrr!

Chicken, bacon and avocado salad sounds perfect for a diabetic. Don't be shy about the generous application of a good quality full-fat mayonnaise, either. And I think you can have a glass (or two) of dry wine.

At least, it works for me ...

Wow congratulations... I am really pleased for you. You have inspired me and filled me with confidence. You clearly have a positive mental attitude. Fabulous. Well done.

I am about 3 weeks into my diagnosis still no chocolate or bread. I feel better no raging thirst no smelly wee and no longer feel lethargic all the time.

I have been using diastix to test bgbut think will have to invest in a blood meter. They are hard to judge level but show an improvet but still too high.

does it take a while for body to respond to diet or should bg be down to acceptable levels already .

cheers guys

You can love beer and still seriously reduce the Carbs by drinking Resolution by Marston’s Brewery. It’s double fermented to reduce the sugars and is only 3G Carbs per bottle.

My hubby drinks it half and half with Brew Dog Nanny State, which is low carb, low alcohol and very hoppy, so he ends up with a beer he likes the taste of (he finds the Brew Dog on it’s own a bit ‘hoppy’ and the Marston’s on its own a bit too strong for a ‘session beer’.

If you did that, you could add slightly to your meals and increase flavour and feel more satisfied. You have to remember nutrition, with only 700 calories coming from food you could end up malnourished. Take a look around the Low Carb world, recipes etc on this website, dietdoctor, etc etc could give you inspiration, eating the same food, month in, month out, year in, year out could end up being very tedious. Personally, LCHF enables me to eat foods that are ‘the new delicious’ so I literally never crave a ‘blow out’.

But, well done you, brilliant achievement!
