Hello, I met with my DSN today and she has given me the go ahead to try to conceive! Excited, but also worried about how long it may take (stopped the pill at the end of August after being on the pill for 12years, don't know how long it will take to come out of my system) - just wondering if anyone can give any advice to give best chances of conception?? Thanks :) x x

Good news, Erin :)

You could try an ovulation chart. There are a number online that can help you predict your most fertile time.

Eating healthily and well is good too (obviously), as is avoiding stress and sleeping well. That's what I did - aimed to get super-healthy and relaxed. It stood me in good stead for pregnancy too.

Good luck and hope to see you posting about your success soon :)

I have 600 pieces of great advice. Trouble is, I'd get banned for 599 of them. So, it just remains for me to say "good luck".

Make sure you're taking 5mg folic acid which you should get on prescription. Do your best to keep your blood glucose levels under control. Relax. Enjoy.

Good luck.

I thought the same. 12 years on the pill plus diabetes, surely this is going to take ages... 36 days later I was taking a test to confirm I was pregnant! I thoroughly recommend ovulation strips. I thought I would ovulate around day 14 like most people, turns out I didn't ovulate until day 21 of my cycle. Worth knowing when is the right time to...um... Make the effort :-)

Good luck x

Don't put yourself under too much pressure to become pregnant - long story short, after numorus early stage loses, years of trying everything (!) and running around the IVF treatment mill we eventually gave up trying, a few months later we thought we'd give IVF 1 more last ditch effort, back seeing our consultant and discussing things he said to my wife hop up on the bed and lets do a quick ultrasound, and thats when we saw our daughters heart beat for the first time - she'll be 9 later this month.

Congratulations on getting the green light it's an amazing achievement! I was on the pill for 10 years - took 4 months of trying before we fell pregnant but as others have said everyone is different and the best thing you can do is not put too much stress or pressure on you or your partner! Good luck! xxx
