Government guidance is horrendous

Out of curiosity, I typed "maximum carbs for type 2 diabetes" and the #2 non-sponsored result is this page from the United Stated CDC:

https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/managing/eat-well/diabetes-and-carbohydrates.html

That is insane. They're basically giving instructions to people that will literally send them to an early grave. The ONLY way I can keep my blood sugars reasonably below 140 on any given day is to limit my daily net carbs to 20 or less per day but this guidance by the CDC recommends 4x that amount. They do say "Make sure to work with a dietitian to set your own carb goal." but, seriously, anyone who is getting to this page out of ignorance on a Google search does not already have a dietitian nor will likely ever have one.

Not just the CDC. It's like this all over the world. :(

It's everywhere and yes, it is insane and lacks logic, but it is what the major food companies want because that is where their profits come from. Money before people's health unfortunately.

Blimey.... :nailbiting:
"people with diabetes should get about 45% of their calories from carbs"

Yes, it's a global onslaught by the food companies as carbs are highly profitable. In the UK it's caused by University food-industry funded 'Research'. SACN who are an advisory group to Public Health England (PHE) draw on this 'research' and all the main UK health and diet bodies lamely follow this advice and that includes DUK (not this site) and all the dietician professional bodies. I assume it has it's parallel in the USA. I find it sad how many institutions and individuals would seriously sacrifice the health of diabetics for the sake of Group-think and not wanting to be out of line.

I agree. My own doctor has seen how going very low carb has brought my blood sugar levels into the normal range yet her advice every time is that I should not worry about it too much- yes have treats (that is carbs) from time to time. My extreme distress when realising I couldn't eat carbs followed by my success low curbing while still missing stress doesn't seem to have worked its way into her brain- I wouldn't eat like this if it didn't work. That combined with the fact that my moderate-severe asthma has disappeared still hasn't converted her. Also I've lost over 30 kilos.

I feel like any doctor should at least be open to looking at something which has definitive results to see if that could be an approach for other patients- maybe even read up about it- not continue to encourage me to up my carb intake . I find it truely disheartening.
