GP advice seems Flaky

Hi, about 6 weeks ago I started on the Low Carb diet, very quickly I started to notice how well I was feeling with much lower Blood sugar scores increased insulin sensitivity but managed to put on 5kg which left me and the dietician mystified. Because of the unexpected weight Gain, a friend suggested to me that I may have an under-active Thyroid. After an initial GP consultation (with a new GP) I had a thyroid and cholesterol test, both were normal. The GP then shocked me by saying (1) I was on the on the wrong diet, (2) it was a waste of time recording Blood sugars insulin dosage, and carbs in a diabetes diary, (3) diabetes did not cause the metabolism to be impaired, and (4) there were no further tests of the endocrine system that could be done. I must say I was a bit shell shocked at these statements as they seem so at odds with ther other advice I have had from Endocrinologists, Dieticians and other GPs. I plan to see my regular GP to check this out furthering a couple of weeks . Are these GP statements crazy or is it me?

I think it depends on how open minded the doc is. Some are good, some pants. It's a lottery.

If you've put on weight could it be you've had too much dairy produce or protein? Protein will change to glycogen and later stored as fat if you go overboard. So have a look at your IMPORTANT food diary and review.

Silly doc - if you don't keep the info, how can you properly work out what's happened?

Follow your gut and advice here xx

Diagnosed prediabetic Easter 2014. Just left to get on with it, no guidance or help from GP. Every day I'm learning something new.

(1) I was on the on the wrong diet,
If the diet works for you then it's not wrong

(2) it was a waste of time recording Blood sugars insulin dosage, and carbs in a diabetes diary,
If you're taking insulin, I'd say NOT recording it would be rather risky.

(3) diabetes did not cause the metabolism to be impaired,
Depends on what he meant exactly?
For example, with T1 you don't get the hormone that slows down the digestion, so you BG may rise very quickly - there are pills for people who struggle with it. I would say it makes the metabolism pretty "impaired".

(4) there were no further tests of the endocrine system that could be done.
I'm sure there are, but maybe HE meant that can't order them, only a specialist?
