GP asking for another sample?

When I saw the nurse last week for my initial assessment they had a urine sample off me, yesterday I had a call from my surgery and one of the GP's are asking for another sample, they wouldn't say why though.

Is this normal or could it be related to my diabetes? I can't stop worrying that they have found something else.

Don't worry, I am sure it will be OK. Being diabetic does involve a multitude of tests.

Hi @Daniel1e

I wouldn't worry. It is probably a follow up

Doctors, nurses and lab technicians are all human - and sometimes they mess up, ruining samples, dropping them, leaving them out of the fridge... sometimes the machines break down, or the test solutions are out of date... nd sometimes tests just 'go wangy' and they need to do a second test.

Thanks, I guess I'm still finding things a little overwhelming at the moment.

Don't worry - just take it that they are doing their job properly, and sometimes things can go wrong or they may need to double check. So nothing sinister!

Last time I had a (routine) urine test it had to be repeated twice as the first time it arrived too late at the hospital (they need fresh samples!), and the second time the container leaked while being sent for analysis. My GP finally decided we'd wait till my next check up to try again...:wideyed::wideyed:

Nothing to worry about might be checking your kidneys, as my DN, normally asks for two samples done At different times anything from 1 or 2 days apart,

Hi carb Foods
Looks like your surgery is taking the P:wideyed:
Seriously, it will be something as simple as needing some more sample for some more tests ora test hasn't run successfu;;y and they want to re-run. Probably nothing to worry about.

I once got a letter saying I was to see my GP about the results of a blood test I had. Once in his office he said, "And what can I do for you today?" I told him I had come as bidden to hear the results of my blood test and he said that he didn't understand. I thought I wasn't being clear so I went over it again and he said there weren't any blood test results. I said that I had given blood so I was surprised. He phoned the lab who said that they binned the blood because the paperwork had a name on it that didn't match the name on the test tube.

It's not the **** up that got my goat it's the fact that they thought they had a result and this generated a letter and an appointment and I was actually in the doctor's office before anyone knew what was going on. My sister holds the record in that they lost three of her samples of blood.

All this is by way of saying that you needn't panic. They may well have just tipped your sample away.

Maybe they have found you are pregnant, and are double checking!
I'm only joking, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. :)
I've had a sample (fungal toenail) go missing at the testing lab too.

Blimey. There aren't many samples I would want to keep track of more than a fungal toenail.
I mean, imagine if it had escaped! :woot:

I have just picked up the sample pot and there was a slip with it which said "Urine Albumin: Creatinine Ratio"
