Gp/dsn/consultant.

Hi,

I’m just asking out of curiosity but when you have your diabetic appointments do you all see the same person. I go to a diabetic clinic at my local hospital and I never ever see the same person twice! There’s no continuity and I’m always being asked the same questions.
 
I have only seen a practice nurse about Diabetes. No GP, no DSN and no hospital clinic.
 
Me too. I have been diagnosed 5 years and have only seen one nurse at my surgery. No GP, no specialist, no consultant, no hospital clinic. But this is the norm with T2s not on insulin.

I do get a full half hour with her though!
 
Im seen in the hospial clinic. I can see any of the consultants depending who’s free when Im next in the queue to be seen but any complicated questions they always refer back to the main endo Ive seen over the years
 
I go to the hospital.
Until I went on the pump, I saw a different consultant every time.
I was told, with the pump, I would see the same consultant, nurse and dietitian every year.

At may annual appointments since then ...
- I saw the consultant, dietitian and nurse
- I saw the same consultant and dietitian but no nurse
- I saw a different consultant, a different nurse and no dietitian
 
I’ve mainly seen my GP, only seen the nurse for foot checks.
 
Nothing to do with diabetes, but when I was receiving cancer treatment I had regular appointments with oncology. Whilst I was in the waiting room I always asked the nurse if I could see Mr X rather than any of the others. I always did see Mr X. It maybe worth asking next time.
 
I wouldn’t see anyone at all if I didn’t phone my surgery and ask for a diabetic review.
My GP just gave me a prescription for metformin, told me I was diabetic and that was that - didn’t hear a dicky bird from them after that!
 
See whoever is available to see me.
There follows the checks for heart, kidney and neuropathy.

This is the face of my out of target HBa1c.
So it is generic and the quality of the consultation varies based on who is doing it. This ranges from the arrogant consultant who dislikes my plebian questions and provides overly technical answers to the sensible and good humoured ones who have some emphathy.
Last time I got my Freestyle Libre so it was well worth that morning of my life!

Perhaps my feet smell
 
I am lucky in Oz to be in the private system, same of everyone and I am lucky to be able to choose.
When I was attending hospital clinics it was the same endo and this was before diabetes specialist nurses.
 
I used to see different people every time. Since letting them know I have autism and it’s difficult to see new people every time I have seen the same people each time.
