Hi and welcome. Many people develop T2 due partly to their genes and the wrong diet. Yes, do keep all carbs down but you can have proteins and fats quite freely as well as veg and non-tropical fruit. Nothing is prohibited but just try to keep the average right. You may be offered the drug Metformin which many of us have. It's a very safe drug which helps a bit. The standard version does cause bowel upset for some for a week or two but there is a Slow Release (SR) version to help with that if needed. Note that BP tablets as well as Statins all help to raise blood sugar so make sure your dosage is no higher than you need to manage the problem. Your GP may suggest adding Statins but make sure you have the lipids ratios results in your next blood test that indicate you need them as GPs hand them out like sweets.
