GP visit

Hi everyone, I am hoping that someone may have some insight for me.
Just back from my fasting blood test follow up with my GP.
He said that my diabetes is being controlled very well and was very pleased with me, however, (there is always a however isn't there?)
He is concerned about raised levels in my liver. I was on simvastatin, but stopped taking it myself two months ago because of muscle pain and discomfort, and the GP admitted that it can be the cause of raised liver enzyme readings.
So he is sending me for a scan to determine what is wrong with my liver. I am a non-drinker, so that rules alcohol out.
He has now put me on Pravastatin 20mg once a day and has taken me off Gliclazide as it was causing weight gain, so I am now on
Metformin SR 500mg x3
Pravastatin 20mg x1
Januvia 100mg x 1
Two questions for you.
1. Any ideas what causes raised liver enzymes?
2. Should I take the Pravastatin and januvia in the morning or evening?
No info on the instructions!
I currently take my Metformin SR in the evening.

There are a whole list of things that can (and do) affect the liver, so I would suggest you wait until you get the results of the scan and ask the professionals then. Speculation will usually just add to your stress whether you can sense it or not and raised stress levels is not good for diabetes.
 
Sorry can't help with most of your query but have been on Januvia for a while . I am told it only kicks in when your levels are high . That is why it is good for spikes. If you know your levels are likely to be higher at any paricular time of day that would seem to be the right time to take it.
Works for me to take it in the evenings , but that began because it made me fall asleep in the beginning.
I actually used to spike in the evenings when I had a smaller than usual meal . januvia obviously stops the liver dumping.
I think you just have to work that into your own circumstances.
 
I was on statins, and refused to take them, on my last gp visit I told her this , and she even admitted that my livers readings were better, now waiting to see a consultant, regarding a new statin that will not affect my liver

I have started on the new meds and taking them in the evening, so far so good.
It is interesting regarding the link between statins and raised liver enzymes.
My GP wants to see me in two weeks for another fasting blood test and is monitoring my levels closely.
Hopefully the liver scan will give me more info.
As always, there are always a lot of kind and helpful people out there who are willing to share their thoughts and experiences, which makes this site so good!
