Hallo, I was diagnosed as a prediabetic in August 2022 and I'm desperate to get to remission! I've managed to lost nearly 10 KG since then, I am on a rosuvastatin (5 mg) which I feel is contributing to the side effects of tingling in arms and legs, cold hands/legs etc. What suggestions does anyone have on managing the side effects??

Hello, good morning!

Statins can raise blood sugars, and they can indeed have some side effects that are rather undesirable. Is it the only medication you're on? Because statins aren't for (pre-)diabetes, they're for high cholesterol, so I'm just checking. My best way to manage the side effects was to quit taking them, haha. Seriously though, for me the side effects made life pretty much unlivable, the joint pain was incredible, so... Yeah. That, and high-ish cholesterol isn't all that bad, especially for women above a certain age. So if your numbers aren't dramatically high into double digits due to familial high cholesterol, and you haven't had a cardiac event in the past, maybe see whether the pro's outweigh the cons or not. Personal decision though, and wholly depends on what you're comfortable with, what your needs are and what your medical history looks like. Just something to consider, maybe.

As for getting back down to non-diabetic numbers, though this is geared to T2's, it should work for a prediabetic as well: https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html

If you have any questions, throw them out there!

Hallo, thank you for writing! Yes I am on the statin because my cholesterol's been high, although at last visit (24 April) HDL/ LDL/ Triglycerides measures were 2.448/1.76/ 0.616 mmol/L, HbA1c was 6.07% from 2.14/4.60/0.88 and 6.4% in 28 February so progress? I'm 59, no family history of diabetes, no cardiac events thank God, but already finding the measuring of blood glucose/statins etc. expensive so would love to get more healthy naturally so thank you, will go and read up your blog!
