Grrr. this forum does not work with Safari! Admin please sort it out.

OK techno rant out the way. I am 43, was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2, 3 years ago, have been struggling to get to grips with this since then, Have been prescribed Doxazosin, Bisoprilol Fumarate, Bendrofluemethiazide, Amlodipine, Lisinopril, Metformin Hydochloride, Victoza. Was using Byetta with horrible side effects.

The short story, bumped along for three years, until I started experiencing peripheral neuropathy. Started searching for ways to treat the symptoms and came across a documentary online which can be seen on Vimeo called Simply Raw (Link removed. Forum Policy. Google for information). Being a born sceptic, I initially thought, tosh and bunkem, but then a light went on inside my head, If going vegan and following a raw food diet can show such startling results with this group, why not give it a go.

Baseline, I weighed myself on Sunday March 27th, thats 2 weeks ago, I was 161.6 kg, yep morbidly obese 6ft3in not good for someone who was in there teens an athlete wining national events and being asked to compete at an International level. Depressed you bet. Non-the-less, seize the day and all that, inspired by reading further about simply raw and raring to go, its only 30 days after all. My BP had been stabilised with all the medications I had been prescribed, but my blood sugar was still high averaging 14- 16 mmol. Having talked through the value of charting over the years with several councellors and therapists, I knew that it would be an important thing to do.

2 weeks eating lots of great salads, nuts, fruits, avocado, chillies and juicing with beetroot and greens. Staying on meds until Thursday last 7th April I have (drum roll) lost an incredible 10.9kg, feel brighter than I have for years, have stopped sweating profusely, peripheral neuropathy all but gone, still occasionally feel lightheaded, interestingly not now I have stopped taking meds. My blood sugar is on average 7.5 and has been as low as 5.2 yesterday and my blood pressure is in normal range 127/80 with it having been as low as 93/62.

I am not saying this is for everyone, and you have to be disciplined, which is not easy if you are like me and just met any and all my cravings. My taste is of course changing and I am beginning to actively enjoy the new flavours and combinations. Hey salad fruit and veg is not so bad honest! The results are really speaking for themselves.

I have asked to have a full blood screen and have my urine tested next week, really to see how the cholesterol level is, should be markedly improved with no Animal Fat/ Meat Dairy etc. I now fear talking to my GP less and am actually looking forward to my next visit to the Diabetic Clinic.

I would seriously like to hear from anyone out there who has followed the Simply Raw method to compare results especially in the UK. I am determined to get to 100kgs now and for the first time in 20 years feel that its achievable, I can't wait to get back up into the mountains on my bike and enjoy the great outdoors again.

Welcome to the Forum.

I can and do use Safari on here with NO problems, maybe it is something to do with your own setup ? I don't think Admin need to sort anything out ?

Glad to hear that you are doing so well on your 'Raw' diet.......we have had Members here before who utilise it, if it works for you.....great. There are posts and comments referring to it previously. Many here use very different methods with extremely successful results without so much restriction of their diet. I have seen the Raw Diet previously and I too am a sceptic, frankly I couldn't be bothered with it. Not my idea of a great Lifestyle........ :(

Personally I use a Reduced Carb/Low GI/Low GL/Low Fat/Low Salt diet which works exceedingly well for me. I have lost 35kgs and have great control of Bg levels, BP of 110/65 on average, feel fitter, healthier, and generally ten times better than I was before coming to this forum for help and following the advice given here. :D

As for the Video and the site.......anything which starts off "A cure for Diabetes" and features Dr Gabriel Cousins doesn't do a great deal for me........ :(

Definitely an issue with the technical on the forums side. I am using Chrome for the forum and don't get repeatedly pushed to the login page. Not to worry though, Chrome will suffice.

Thanks for feedback, although bullish in tenor. Whilst Cousens may be on the 'oddball' side, there is no doubt in my mind of the value in his observations and study of the diabetic condition. I certainly cannot argue with the results I am experiencing and hope that it might encourage others. The diet you are on also looks very similar to 'RAW' in terms of restrictions/lowering levels, it would be interesting to know how long it took you to lose 35kgs?

Whilst long term I will be making lifestyle changes and not perhaps always following RAW, because I too enjoy the odd whisky now and again, and think that certain elements of RAW are perhaps too restrictive, I have to reiterate its not for ever but has certainly kick started my body into healing, which is fine by me.

No problem. :)

As I stated Raw is way too restrictive for me as my diet is a Lifestyle and not just something to allow me to lose weight. I lost the weight over a period of about 6-7 months, a sensible pace for weight loss. Losing it too fast can also cause problems.

I have seen different versions of the raw diet before and it just isn't something I would even consider or even advise. As for 'bullish'.....make that cynical.....There is a thread on here all about the advice offered by your man......mostly very critical, however if it works for you......fine.

As for the 'Guru'........IMHO he was and still is a Quack.......something we see much of here, people offering and promoting so called 'cures' where there are none and bringing false hope to vulnerable and confused people such as the newly diagnosed. One of his followers actually told a Mother of a Type 1 that following a raw diet meant that the child could come off Insulin ???? Really......I don't think so......

So, forgive me but I am not convinced by the raw diet in any way, shape, or form.........

Cynicism aside, as I say its working for me. I always find it interesting when people say too much too fast in terms of weight loss can be a bad thing, without ever defining what the bad might be :D you can't dispute the evidence of controlling diabetes through diet, and I for one don't want to keep on putting money into the hands of the pharmaceuticals :D

Great to hear that you achieved the weightloss in a reasonable time. I in the meantime will go back to eating my 'restricted' diet (its not that restricted btw) feeling better than I have for years :p

I'll look for the thread on RAW, haven't found it yet....

I should make it REALLY clear that I don't think that eating RAW does 'cure' diabetes and certainly Type 1. However, As a detoxing tool It is remarkable and the results I am seeing are just that. I am not dumb enough to say I am no longer a type 2 diabetic, but I am wise enough to know that I have to change my diet and food lifestyle, if I can stop medications on the way, all to the good, surely :D

Diet coupled with exercise is definitely the way forward for many Diabetic's.......I agree. :)

There's plenty of information out there about losing weight too fast, just one shown here. Unable to post the link.........

• The pounds that you shed are mainly water weight and not from fat, which can cause you to easily dehydrate and then rapidly regain the weight.
• Fasting or using detox diets can cause diarrhea; the resulting dehydration can cause constipation.
• Rapid weight loss leads straight to fatigue, draining your energy levels and stamina.
• Restricting your calories means risking malnutrition, or not receiving the right amount of vitamins and minerals.
• Your sodium and potassium levels will drop, contributing to a greater chance of cramping and a feeling of illness.
• Losing weight quickly takes it toll on your appearance, causing your skin to dry out, your hair to lack luster and your complexion to appear gaunt.

I like my protein, meat, fish, steak etc and am definitely not a Nut Cutlet man...... :( As for the idea of spending time trying to balance out the diet because of the lack of various Vitamins and Minerals, probably having to take supplements because of various deficencies.........Nah ! Too much like hard work, very time consuming as well.

This from another Pro Raw Food site......

raw food diet?
People on a raw food diet eat 100% raw, uncooked food. There are many people who find this a little difficult (often for social reasons), so they choose a 75-99% raw food diet. Most raw foodists are vegetarian or vegan, but some eat raw fish and meat.

Raw Fish and Meat........I prefer mine cooked, thank you...... :)

We have enough problems here trying to get people who are newly diagnosed and join us, who have been given rubbish dietary advice from DUK and the NHS to try an alternative which just restricts the carbs let alone telling them this type of caveman diet is great.......TBH, I can't see it catching on much other than some who like 'fad' diets........

It's good that we are getting the information out there so that the Member's can see what it is we are looking at here.........what a Raw Food diet means...... :|

As I say.....if it works for you, and if anybody else wants to try it out......go for it....... :|

I'll certainly look into the losing weight too fast issue, but so far other than mild loose bowel movements which I also have when using medications. Again, I don't want to be restricting my diet long term, however it is motivating me to take control of my diabetes, has to be good imho.

Thanks, found it read through it too, and I know he is a strange kettle of fish, however RAW is working for me, so i'll keep going and re-introduce the low GI food sources and balance out my diet over the next few weeks, but as a personal experiment will go the full month on RAW to see where I am at. :D

Bunnahabhain.......new one on me ! Islay Malt ? Anyway, Slainte Mhath....... :D

Oh yes, as one of our Members mentioned in the thread link I gave, here is the updated 'Quackometer' results for the 'oddball' Dr C, he get's 10 Canards !!

http://www.quackometer.net/?url=http%3A ... ens%2Easpx

The quacking noise is deafening. This web site is riddled with loosely defined terms and possibly pseudoscientific language with huge sprinklings of alternative medicine mumbo jumbo. It is full of scientific jargon that is out of place and probably doesn't know the meaning of any of the terms. Using lots of physics terms like this rarely has any meaning outside of physics books. It shows little or no sceptical awareness and so should be treated with caution! It also looks like this site is trying to sell stuff. Buyer Beware!

He is also 1st and 2nd in the Top 10...........

http://www.quackometer.net/?hitparade=on

So Folks..try it if you like..but please treat Rabbi/Dr C and his words of 'wisdom' with the utmost caution........... :| He keeps popping up from time to time......

Seen the quackometer. Highly amusing and yes Cousens dosent really lend himself to fab marketing. All those titles for one. It's not him or his book I am really interested in it's results and RAW detox is working for me
