Is there any specific reason why the blood glucose peak during a prolonged GTT would be at 90 minutes rather than earlier? Posting on behalf of my wife who has recently had this test. Thanks

I cannot speculate why, your wife would peak at 90 minutes.
Having had quite a few extended OGTT, there is many reasons for using this test.
What was the conclusion or why the reasons given for the test?
Has your wife had some form of hypoglycaemia?

Hello :)

Do you mean "the highest result is at 90 minutes" or that "the results are taken at 90 minutes"?
 
Thank you for your replies. Yes sorry I meant her highest reading was at 90 minutes. The test was 4 hours long. She was being investigated for diabetes and a condition of plummeting blood sugar I believe - hypoglycemia? Anyway she does not have this but the endocrinologist suggested that she has 'beta cell dysfunction' based on her results. We were just curious as to what the late peak in blood sugar would be as most information online seems to indicate that this should happen early on with a GTT. Perhaps it is a non issue. Anyway I guess we will know more when we speak to the doctor.
 
The reason for the extended glucose test is to find how and why hypoglycaemia occurs. I have Hypoglycaemia, the test affirmed that excess insulin was causing the hypos.

Do ask if her other tests that are usually done during the test, what were the results. Most likely c-peptide and GAD, possibly insulin levels as well.

I am now going to look up beta cell functions as mine are altered during digestion and by my meds.
