for about a year my weight loss stalled, despite me doing the same sort of things. The about 4 months ago i got blood poisoning and had tons of antibiotics. I mean, 1g 5x a day for several weeks.

and since then I have lost about 8lbs. Could the antibiotics have changed my gut flora in a positive way? I am not doing anything different, but the weight is going.

Only a biopsy of your gut could really tell you what you want to know.
But you are right about how your gut, brain trigger does alter your metabolism after stomach viruses and such as the wrong type of bacteria.

I think it's very complex, but my thoughts are that to start with, antibiotics will kill lots of your gut bacteria. A lot of the bacteria form a very useful role in providing enzymes that help you to break down and digest a greater range of food. So less bacteria could well lead to weight loss., but it may also mean you are not getting some needed nutrition from the food.

Michael Moseley's book on gut health helped me understand the gut biome. It is a possibility that the heavy dose of antibiotics cleared an over population of a particular gut bacteria that allowed a sort of rebalance to occur. Whatever happened just enjoy the end of your stalled period and keep up with the weight loss. Good luck.

Antibiotics (dont know the specific type though) are given for a specific gut problem to improve gut flora, so I am sure some do help flora.

I cant recall the digestive problem that needs antibiotics to cure it because it was one thing that I didnt have wrong!!
I know my gastric chap put that down to me having oil of orgena every day...

SIBO my friend. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. I have it. Not you haha. There's no cure. Antibiotics help for awhile then repeat. Not doing it. Can't cure it but I can manage it with the right foods. At least for now

There is one that I had called helicobacter pylori.
It's the one that can cause ulcers and it does work for most.

I have written a blog about my experience with it!
