Hi, my hlac level is at and has always been well within the normal range with spikes after eating but fast recovery back to normal. I had in a short period of time I had pretty serious symptoms, my question is why do I have serious symptoms when my hlac is on average well within a healthy range? My diabetes nurse has no idea and hasn't seen this before.

Hi @Seanm1 . Well you don't say what your symptoms are so that makes my comment just a general one:
HbA1C is just an good approximation of the 2/12 to 3 month average of the Blood Glucose. So I don't understand how it could vary within the space of a few hrs or based upon just a few meals.
On the other hand the instantaneous Blood Glucose level is changing constantly and this can be measured by 'finger prick tests' with a glucometer (Blood Glucose meter).

It isn't just prolonged high or low Blood glucose levels that can cause certain symptoms, it's also large variations (either high or low) from what the body is used to - which may well be higher than is considered to be the normal range.

Greetings @Seanm1

Do a bit of research on Reactive Hypoglycemia & see if you recognise any of the symptoms.
I'm surprised your nurse hasn't suggested that as a possibility.
Not normally picked up by a standard blood panel, can only be diagnosed through an eOGTT.

I might be wrong, only a hunch
