So, yesterday I was really tired after only having about 3 hours sleep the night before. Was having a really stressful day at work and the carbs have crawled back in! I had a roll and sausage for breakfast, then macaroni cheese & chips from the work canteen (excuse being that I was too tired to prepare my breakfast or salad, etc in the morning). Then in the afternoon one of my kind workmates brought me a cupcake (to be fair though she doesn't know about my diabetes or my recent banishment of carbs!). Then when I got home, my hubby-to-be ordered Indian takeaway so I munched my way through as much curry, rice, popadoms and naan bread as I could manage! Tested my blood sugars last night and they were 11.5 - not impressed.
Today I feel ill but determined to get back on track. Although I am seriously craving a bacon sandwich and a big bad chocolate bar! Could also go a McDonalds! Help!!!!

That just sounds like one of those days you let your hair down........lol......[for me every weekend...]

if you were following low carb diet before that then I would imagine the cravings would be quite bad after that.....

don't be so hard on yourself...........you'll get back on track....:)

After all that junk food your readings weren't that bad considering. We all have those days....I had one a couple of weeks ago and had sausage and chips with 2 slices of bread and butter....my numbers were high and that was my own fault. It was an enjoyable one off blip that I enjoyed but won't happen again any time soon. I didn't beat myself up over it....I moved on and got back on track as you will...cos you know you have to :)....Get back on the low carb bus and carry on regardless :)

Happens to us all. :D

My rule (if you can call it that) is to test through it all.

Seeing those numbers shoot up is a fantastic motivator to stick to the straight and narrow.

Do you get carb cravings? If so, they may be on steroids for the next few days. If so, just keep testing, eat good, filling, low carb foods, and they WILL subside again. :)

I agree with @Brunneria - testing while "high carb sinning :D" is the best thing to do as seeing those higher numbers are a good reminder of what could be doing to yourself! But it also helps if you try to keep mainly low carb foods in the house, then it's not quite so easy to stray when tempted. You can buy low carb bread and rolls or bake your own - so if you do this you can have as many bacon or low carb (95% meat) sausage butties as you can eat! High cocoa (75% or higher) dark chocolate is fine if eaten in small pieces - it's a bit harder to eat a whole 100g bar of this than the milk choc varieties. And there are other lovely low carb treats you can make to replace any sugary or starchy versions.

And never let a one time fall off the wagon become a long term one - it's really not worth it.

well keep at it..change is not a linear progression.. it's not like trying to move from A to B and then feeling we have failed if we don't keep moving forward all the time... .it's more like a a loop....you know...thinking about change...acting on it...keeping it going..so we often move around this loop of change...like a dance ..sometimes the steps seem effortless and we don't have to think about it...sometimes we make a wee slip.. and have to really focus and concentrate on our steps...and then get back in the groove....

No worries, try not to do it again. I find with one crack in the dam the whole lot goes. What the hell? I'm doomed so I might as well be properly doomed. We get another chance, usually.

i go off the rails regularly with excess peanuts/cashews...just draw a line & start again...i occasionally fall off again a day later...you know what...just draw that b****y line & start again...:)

Just don't self destruct about it. I'm doing this a lot at the moment. Don't let it make you feel you're losing it on a grand scale. Just get up and do the right thing every new morning. We all **** up occasionally.

It really doesn't matter so long as we don't conclude, My god I've lost it forever and abandon everything.

Good for you.

We all have bad days when stress, tiredness and feeling unwell cause us to eat things and crave things we shouldn't. Don't worry as it was only 1 day and your readings weren't too bad.

If you're craving chocolate look at the thread "Hotel Chocolat" which I started - there's some great ideas in there for chocolate that isn't so bad for us :)

Curry wise, and I love a curry - go for homemade. My hubby made me a curry a couple of weeks ago and used brown basmati rice for me, chicken fillets and bought a good sauce from a farm foods shop - it was an Indonesian Rendang Sauce.

In the past we would eat a curry accompanied by a nan, poppadoms, onion bhaji's AND bombay potatoes between us! Skip the nan bread if you can and I actually felt pleasantly full rather than bloated with just the curry and no sides.

Oh, and if you like chips . . . how about making sweet potato chips grilled or oven baked? My hubby has made me some since my diagnosis and they're really nice.
