:o Hi all
I had an appointment with my dr this morning regarding my pain and swelling in my ankle. We were chatting away and he prescribed treatment. We then had this conversation :-

Dr" I have some news for you"
me " oh, have you"
Dr " Yes, you remember when you had your Coeliac blood test done and Dr T ( he's the diabetes dr who gave me a MOT) told you your Coeliac test was negative, well, there are 2 parts to the test and the 2nd part, it's the transglutaminase, was high"
me " What, really," then laughing
Dr " It does look as though you do have Coeliac disease, have you had an appointment yet for the endoscopy "
me "no I haven't, do I still have to have it done?"
Dr " yes you will, and they will take a biopsy of your stomach and examine it, and I will contact Mr R again"
me" well that was abit naughty of Dr T to tell me the test was negative, when there's another part to follow, I'm going to tell him off next time I see him"
No comment from my dr on my comment about diabetes dr's premature speculation.

.......and there you have it, I went in for a problem ankle and came out with possible Coeliac disease, still can't get my head around it, but there you go. Just have to wait for the endoscopy appointment to come through ( oh dear) and then get the results. If it Coeliac, then it can be treated successfully on a gluten free diet.

It's like going out for new kettle and ending up with a new washing machine, dishwasher or cooker instead  ( but omore enjoyable) RRB

Hope you get on OK - low carb is the way to go if you are diagnosed.

Beware - tongue in cheek

You don't need a special test for coeliac or wheat intolerance. I was diagnosed 'wheat intolerant' by the DUK Careliner when I told her my complications were cleared by low carb. She actually admitted she was neither diabetic nor a health professional.

But then DUK are 'low carb intolerant.'

Robinredbreast - I went out once many many years ago for an ounce of Old Hoborn - I did not come back with a new fridge but a new car - see 'her in doors' face, it was a picture.

I bet your bank balance was too  RRB

RRB I had an endoscopy after getting a false positive for a coeliac test, the endoscopy found I did not have it.
I think there is quite a high false positive rate with the blood test which is why they do the endoscopy.
So until you have the results from the endoscopy, don't think you've definitely got it.
Bet you could do without this on top of your other worries - how is your eye doing by the way? :D

Thanks guys and I hope you all have a great weekend :)

AC when the diabetes said my results were negative and I don't have Coeliac disease. I was pleased and convinced myself it must be an ulcer then. The pain is so bad sometimes, last Sunday especially, it made me feel so ill and I couldn't eat for hours and my daughter had to eat her roast chickhen dinner on her own :( and this afternoon at work it was very painful, so I worked with gritted teeth and screwed up eyes.OUCH

As for the dodgy eye, I have had a more black dots today, so another bleed, but I see my consultant on July 31st, so probably more laser treatment I suspect. RRB X

Is this something diabetics are prone to? I ask because I recently took my oldest son (20) to drs, he keeps vomiting and retching a lot. They did blood tests and the dr said she would test for coeliac due to family history, I don't have it nor do my parents but we are all diabetic, so I'm assuming she ment because we are diabetic?

Quite a shock RRB, hope all goes well!

T1 are more prone to it. I think T2s are the same as the general population.

Thanks Shop and Noblehead, best wishes RRB ( thankfully tummy not to bad today  ) RRB X
