Haemoglobin A1c level Abnormal: GP action?

Not being able to eat my home-made bread any more

Result: Abnormal

So, newly diagnosed and I'm worried - not least by the "no further action" message. I tried to call my GP but they were unavailable. I've done some crash-course basic research and modified my diet immediately. I have a Freestyle Libre 2 on order and will be installing this ASAP. But why the apparent lack of concern by my GP? Anyone else had this?
 
Well spotted. From memory your numbers are just on the verge of pre diabetes. There’s lots of info on this site about how to get that lower. Looks like your doc is relying on you to do your own research. Or just wait until it all gets worse and y’all be offered medication

Yes, our GP practice in general seems to be very hands off - quite annoying sometimes! I really want to avoid medication if at all possible - my fear of T2 and the possible effects has focussed my willpower tremendously! Time to do some more reading...

My advise would be get a glucose meter and do some self testing. There’s loads of info out there , or on this site about how things affect the body. The number one thing is food

The other thing I’d recommend is starting a food diary noting ever scrap of food you eat

My GP is just as bad. Got my medical records and found out I was pre diabetic for years prior to my type diagnosis, I had no idea because they didn’t say anything so didn’t have the opportunity to do anything about it. Now I live like this, not eating what I like and trying to keep it at bay for as long as possible and I’m only . You have to do what you’re doing and look after yourself because they don’t care, they just wait until they need to hand out a prescription

A HbA1c of 42 is technically prediabetic, and most docs don't do anything until you're diabetic and then they start prescribing things.... Mainly because most of them, I think, wrongly assume T2 is unavoidable anyway, so why mention it?
 
I feel like I'm among friends here - much appreciated! I've ordered a T200+ and will start testing in earnest.
 
Well, my GP has suddenly become proactive! I'm due to attend a course run by Reed Wellbeing. Exciting stuff!

Only 2 years. Mine was recorded in 2006, not only not diagnosed until 2020 but never tested again between.

Well it’s because I hadn’t seen the doctors prior to that so it could have been much longer but was never tested so I can’t blame them for that however I should have been told immediately but it was marked as no further action lifestyle modification but they never passed that information on it was only after I obtained my medical records I found it out
