Half Unit Injector Pen Options?

Hi . . .

An appeal for info . . .

I currently get 2 Bolus Insulins on prescription . . . Humulin S and Humalog (both from Lilly). They have very different profiles, and I use them for different circumstances (Keto meals; non-Keto meals; BS corrections).

I find it useful to have both these Insulins in a half-unit injector pen, as my doses are low and the half-unit can be helpful.

There is only 1 half-unit injector pen available in the UK, for Lilly Insulins . . . this is the Lilly Luxura HD pen, which only comes in one colour (green). This was confirmed by Lilly when I contacted them.

Does anybody have info regarding any other half-unit pens available?

Currently I’m loading the 2 different Insulins into identical pens, and the possibility for a mistake is obvious. I’ve marked them differently, but would prefer it if I could locate another half-unit pen which has a different ‘feel’ and colour, so that the chance for a mix-up is reduced.

Are there other half-unit pens available which work/might work, with Lilly Insulins? (in the UK? elsewhere?)

Some searching today has revealed the Novopen Echo which has half-units and a memory function. Does anybody know if this pen can work only with Novo Nordisk Insulins? or is it compatible with all 3ml Insulin cartridges?

Thanks for any info & Regards :)
Antony

Hi Antony - the NovoPen Echo (and all NovoPens) only work with Novo's Penfill Cartridges

NovoPen Echo is the only 1/2 unit pen I can think of.

I have both the (green) HumaPen Luxura and the Novopen Echo. Unfortunately, the cartridges aren't interchangeable.

With the Novopen, the cartridges are threaded to screw on a needle tip
With the Humapen, the pen itself is threaded to screw on a needle tip.

Side note: I'm in the US, but I'd assume it's the same over in the UK

Yep - same in the UK

Sadly, all of the cartridges from the different manufacturers are different, ensuring non-interoperability.
