I think we'll need more info.

What are your blood sugar levels like?
Are you overweight?
Have you tried changing your diet to low carb?

They can be around10 when I get up sometimes and gradually they go down,I have cut out bread patatoes and they go down to 6-8 and 5-8 iam not over weight is there something else I could be doing.

To be honest those readings don't sound too bad. Has the doc said what he would like the readings to be? When do you test?

Do you have your own meter? Have you tested how/which foods affect your blood sugars?

Do you follow any eating plan?

I found that for me the only way I gained control was to buy my own meter and test effect of each type and combination of foods. I now follow a low carb plan, no bread, cereal, pasta, rice, potatoes, etc

Every person is different, some can eat lots of carbs, some cant, testing is way to find out.

I am sure members with lots more experience will be able to help you more

HI. Those figures aren't too bad. Are you low-carbing to something like 150gm/day? If you are young you may actually be a Late onset T1. If so do ask the GP for the two relevant tests as you say you are normal weight.

Thanks for all the help,I do have a monitor for testing sugars is there another one I don't know about, maybe I should not eat cereals then, after eating my sugars can go up to 15 and it takes more then 2hours for them to go down when they do it does go a lot lower.by the way I am 65 and struggling

Cereal, bread, crackers, potatoes and rice are all high in carbohydrates which will raised your blood glucose.
Try to reduce the amount you take or even cut some of them out sometimes.

Rice is a killer for me. Change cereal to eggs and bacon and eats lots of protean like meat and lots of nice cheeses

Hi Happy Girl

basically forget all the "low-fat is the only way" message that we have been bombarded with for the last 25 years. In a simplistic way diabetics have a limit to the amount of carbohydrate they can eat, carbohydrates turn to sugar in body. Every diabetic (and non-diabetic) can tolerate a different amount of carbohydrate before their blood glucose levels shoot up.

Getting your head around eating a lower/limited carb and high fat diet isn't going to happen overnight. You will make mistakes, but thats how we learn.
Use you meter and write everything down, you might find that you can't eat many carbs early in morning but can have a sandwich at lunch (some people can, some can't).

You will read posts where someone says they can eat 4 slices of bread at each meal and still has readies under 5 at all times, others only have to sniff a freshly baked baguette to have a reading in double figures.

We are humans, not robots, testing is the way to found out how your body works.

If you don't get your test strips on prescription, then SD code free form home and health are the best valueI have found.

Keep posting, asking questions and sharing your experiences.

Take a look at the 'what have you eaten today?' thread in the Low Carb Forum. I've found some great meal ideas from there. In general for an evening meal I have meat and salad or meat and green veg. I also have a little something later in the evening, about 9pm, like plain yoghurt, nuts or a slice of cheese. This seems to help me not have low blood sugar during the night, which then seems to make my liver produce more glucose during the night and I get a high morning reading. Saying that, my morning reading is still probably my highest and mid afternoon my lowest.
