I have a craving for chocolate every day. I sometimes eat it more than once a day. Has anyone stopped eating it altogether?

Yes I did @Abby's, stopped eating chocolate for a while (the high cocoa type) then reintroduced it around 2 years ago, just have a square each day after my evening meal and find it's sufficient.

I tend to prefer savoury things, but occasionally only Galaxy will do. I have been known to eat a whole woof, but then don't touch it again for six months. So I guess I've given up apart from odd binges.

No - I think I'd fail miserably : D I do try to eat mine at appropriate times though - eg on a walk or as a 'top up' after glucose for a low.

I find that if I ban things from my diet, I start wanting them more. I do limit the amount of,chocolate I buy though each week, and I rarely, rarely eat a whole bar. I have a few pieces or I cut off part of a bar or whatever.

Yes I stopped eating milk chocolate completely when I was diagnosed, and I've never had any real cravings for it since then! I rarely ate any dark chocolate because it was a migraine trigger for me, but since being on a very low carb diet, I've found I'm able to eat a few pieces of 85% cocoa Lindt dark choccie without problems, so now I have one or two small squares a day - it's fairly low in carbohydrates so those little pieces have minimal impact on my glucose levels.

Dark chocolate apparently also has a number of health benefits, so it seems sensible to include it as part of my diet - as good a justification as any IMO! :p

Used to like M&M's , I now find them too sweet and to high in carbs. The only chocolate I eat these days is dark chocolate. If I eat Lindt 70% I fined that can be a bit sweet for me . It's just strange how your taste buds change when you cut out added suger.

I gave up chocolate. I do still crave chocolate but if I would to buy any, then I would eat the whole bar

Go a square of +85% after a meal sometimes and also make my own, so I know what is in them and it seems to work for me.

Funnily enough, I gave it up for over 25 years, due to the most horrendous migraines, vomiting etc

As soon as I started an LCHF lifestyle and dared experiment I discovered u could eat chockie and no side effects,so been eating a bit if the very dark stuff (lower carbs 18g-8g per 100g) with absolutely no side effects.

So in short, I've gone the other way:)

Some of the the high cocoa content Chocolate is amazing. I have always enjoyed eating dark chocolate, but now that it's my only option I have found many that have really deep and interesting flavours.

Tesco do a 85% content bar which has a really fruity flavour and only costs £1.

I tried exactly that one a couple of weeks ago and you are spot on about that slightly fruity flavour.

I think my preference having tried a lot (making up on 25 years+ of absence) is Lindt 70%+ some with added flavours, usually about £1.50-£2:)

I also really like Hotel Chocolate's 100% 5 amazing origins, but £3.99 for just 50g, so pretty pricey.

Hi Abby, I am a serious sugar monster, but gave up chocolate, cakes, biscuits, ice cream totally 9 months ago. It was a terrific struggle at first, especially as my colleagues are always bringing in chocolate cake and lovely biscuits, but I have managed by rewarding myself every two weeks with a new book or DVD. I do feel better although must admit that after two months, when I had my long terms blood tests taken, the mmol/L blood tests, the results were hugely improved. However I think that despite still not eating sugary foods, my blood tests would not be so encouraging.

I sometimes steal and scoff my son's Kinder Country bars. Too many though and my FBS is impacted, also they can cause some serious weight gain issues. How they are deemed suitable for Kids I have no idea.

They are not low carb like the 90% chocolate but I can tolerate them in the evening with some careful bolusing.

I don't understand why so many people give chocolate up altogether...I personally haven't given anything up! And was always told by diabetes specialists there is no need to give anything up. I don't have it daily but that's mainly because I'm a gym freak so I try to eat healthily but come the weekend if I want to treat myself I will.

No I have not given up chocolate I do not have it very often but I do still have some occasionally.

Like any food eat test, test, and then test again.
