Has anyone given up chocolate?

I still eat a few squares of 85% now and then without problems. There are many foods that have a much greater affect on my blood sugar than chocolate. My biggest problem foods are cereal and pizza :( hmmm....instead of two slices of pizza, maybe one plus a little chocolate :) and zero cereal.

I used to love chocolate - in fact no let me revise that - I still do - I just have to accept it is something else now 'verboten' in my life. I'm sure at some point I will probably succumb, but currently would be too terrified to even consider it. I just have to stand in queues at check outs now desperately trying to avert my gaze! ..... or use pay at the pump at petrol stations so I don't have to go in!

Sadly I have never liked dark chocolate, and always gave them away if they were in s box / pick and mix etc - so have no real alternative!

I eat chocolate all the time! The other day I had a really high carb (60g) meal including chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce and my numbers were perfect (5's and 6's) for hours after.

Since diagnosis of Type 2 in February I have not eaten any chocolate, sweets, biscuits and only a tiny slither of birthday cake. Yes I miss it but if I had it would want more. Dark chocolate upsets my stomach. I really miss apple pie and custard. I am paranoid about sugars now and carbs.

I have given up chocolate because one or two squares was never enough i would end up eating the whole bar over a day so I don't buy it anymore to avoid temptation

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup almond butter
1/2 cup coconut oil (cold pressed stuff that smells like coconuts)
1 square bakers chocolate unsweetened
almond flavored torani or davinci sugar free syrup to taste

melt the chocolate and put everything together and microwave for about 30 seconds. whisk until smooth and totally blended. spoon into mini muffin pans or ice cube trays. Put in fridge until firm. keep in fridge. These will put any peanut butter cup to shame. They are about 200 calories each with about a gram of carb. Hard to overeat as they are extremely rich. I sometimes have one as my breakfast. Forgot to say it makes about 24

@MichaelaWalker ditto - my dilemma exactly - except delete apple pie, enter Ice Cream!

I have a craving for chocolate every day. I sometimes eat it more than once a day. Has anyone stopped eating it altogether?

I sometimes have a very small piece of dark chocolate (70% or above) and I tend to order my chocolate bars from Atkins website, you can also get them off Ebay or Amazon, they are very low in sugar and very low in carbs but are expensive.

I crave chocolate +++. I have tried every low carb chocolate going, but they all taste horrible, or contain polyols like maltitol, lactitol or isomalt, which do raise my BG slightly, and after more than 10 grams, get horrible GI side effects.

however, recently discovered cavalier chocolate with stevia (available online from avidlite). taste delicious, sweetened with stevia and erythritol, both of which I like, no side effects, very little effect on my sugars so far.

I gave up chocolate for lent one year - a friend asked me to do it with her and to make it 8 weeks of no chocolate and no sweets. I found it difficult and had two occasions where I wanted nothing other than chocolate - but managed to get through it and then when I went back to eating chocolate it did not taste the same and I have never really gone back to it.
As for sweets well I went onto the sugar free type and have remained there.
I very occasionally eat chocolate but only a small amount either a few squares or a child's individual size bar.
Generally I am not that bothered by it and find if I do start to eat it I want it more.........
Hope that helps.

On the contrary as I'm always looking to remove and replace various items on my shopping list I'm considering going for this 70% cocoa dark chocolate stuff now that I've drifted away from malt loaf.
Can't see it being as good as malt loaf but nothing ventured nothing gained.

I have the odd bit now and again it as my BG levels more stable. Mine is not only chocolate but fruitless and starburst! I do not have them too often but I find I become fixated and have to have it, trouble is one but leads to another! I did not find it difficult to give up cakes pastries etc! I might blood test a cake and see what happens! All things in moderation as long as you test! It's very hard especially as I am on school holidays! Have you tried Werther's sugar free butter candies? They are quite nice, cheapest place to buy them is Tesco X

well done good try but i cant go near any sweets im so afrid
