Has anyone had maggot therapy?

I've never had maggot therapy myself but my friend had a very bad leg ulcer that failed to heal and went gangrene. They were excellent at eating away dead tissue and dont worry, you wont see them as they are contained in a type of sealed teabag that is placed over the affected area. They are special maggots that are bred for medical use.

My friend also used pure honey from a beekeeper that also worked marvels and encouraged the wound to heal.
 
I think you're talking about Manuka Honey - which has antibacterial properties and is supposed to be AMAZING at treating skin conditions.

My borther actually had maggot therapy on his leg ulcer. He said it tickled. Didn't cure the leg ulcer, but it sure as hell cleaned up the wound.
 
Manuka IS good but check the label as some arnt as potent in the good stuff it contains.
Tesco also do a new zealand bio active honey that's half the price and I've found it to be equally as effective.:-)

Actually no.... the honey came from a local beekeeper..
 
Most honey direct from the bee-keeper is good for healing wounds. Also eating local honey can help some people with hay fever/allergic asthma, 'cos the bees use the pollen from the same plants - it supposedly helps build up a resistance.

I don't know what they do to "commercial" honey, as it's such a pure product when it comes off the comb. First-year honey is thinnish and clear; after a cold winter it solidifies and crystallizes. Anything that is thick but easily spreadable has been somehow processed.

My dad was a bee-keeper - can you tell? :wink:
