@Ian zero Protein digests slower. And protein can still effect your blood sugar levels. But it can vary per person, for most of us when we eat a normal meal the longer tail of insulin takes care any protein that you might convert that you eat. You can convert protein to glucose for energy, usually if not enough carbs are available.
So if you have a higher protein meal, especially with a lower carb meal, you might need some insulin for the protein. It's not the same ratio as carbs and I suppose it ends up depending what your body ends up doing with it. So it could really vary.
I had never dosed for protein, but my first run in with needing insulin for it was when I had a high protein 2 carb shake. No sweeteners. My levels would shoot up drastically sometime after, I had gotten them thinking it would be an easy food to not worry about dosing for. Wrong! I also have run into it using a faster acting insulin, I have to take another dose later.
