Hello, I am a new member with some questions.I recently went to my doctor suffering from hair loss, weight loss and chronic fatigue.I had blood tests and they have told me that they need to be repeated to test for infections and also to check my HBA1C. I have to go back in a month. Do you think this is because I am at risk of diabetes? Why wasn't the first test sufficient?

It sounds to me as if your GP is being very thorough, and is checking everything. For some tests they like to take 2 samples, some time apart, to see if they are consistent.

If you are really worried, I would make an appointment to see your GP before your scheduled visit in a month; tell him/her your fears, and discuss it.

Diabetes is one thing they will check for; there are many of us on here who will tell you it is not the end of the world :D . For proof of that, look no further than Sir Steve Redgrave (Type 1) and Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the Polar explorer (possibly TYpe 2). They have both lived full and exciting lives.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Once you know whether or not you are diabetic, come back here and we'll do all we can to help you cope. :D

Hope this helps
