hey

I'm having one of those days where I am craving sweet things chocolate, ice cream and basically anything that is not on a healthy or near healthy list. Can anyone give me advice on how to get by these days?

Lynne

No, I'm a T1 and weak, I just inject more insulin!

Seriously, can you not give yourself a small treat now and then as a reward for all the hard work. (The forum police will probably tell me off now!)

Thanks folks
It feels so strange as I have been super good and really don't eat a lot of sweet things anyways. I may just give into temptation lol. I'm T2 and don't have to check bloods or inject I'm only tablet and diet control. Never felt cravings so bad lol.

Everyone is different, my step dad is type 2, he doesn't test and has kept his diet the same ever since before diagnosis. Some people have to be more strict for valid reasons, but like I say if it's a treat and not an everyday occurrence I really don't see the harm.

Had a few threads about dark chocolate before. If it's over 70 to 80% cocoa then the carb content is quite low and the odd square isn't going to do you much harm. You don't have to buy expensive brands, there are good versions available at Lidl and Aldi.

M & S sugar free butterscotch.

It's lush and tastes like butterscotch should!

Btw, is it just me who never really having been a chocoholic, starting craving it massively when diagnosed with diabete?

Will give the chic and butterscotch a go, Croc I know what I mean, never used to crave sweet things now meringues, pastries etc just look to tempting.

As long as they don't try to take away my marmite!

70% dark chocolate now tastes sweet to me! Lidl do a range with raspberry, orange and even caramel (small crunchy pieces) and only 5gm per square (bigger than Cadbury etc) tastes so indulgent but still do - able carb wise!!

Hey I use to go for a walk and check my blood sugar throughout, if it was at a reading that was okish I would treat myself, monitor my readings and give the bolus. I also just walk to forget the cravings

Tried the low crab, no carb diet, put on over 1stone in just over 2 weeks, have no energy and feel awful Back to the drawing board

Then something must have been totally wrong with portions or quantitys.

Energy can fade on 1st week but comes back.

Something must be out of kilt to put 6z"bs on a week. I have never heard of an instance like this ever:(

I treat myself regularly. Once or twice a week. Two days ago sugars seemed good and I had a caramel panna cotta with double cream !

As you do I just injected a few extra units of insulin rolled up my sleeves and got stuck in. That's the great thing about being a type 1, if I fancy a treat I just go ahead and have one. Obviously though I'm sensible and I don't stuff my face every day with mars bars, big mac meals and milkshakes !

For me it's really important. Have been type 1 for well over three decades but it's not just about my physical health, my emotional and mental health is equally as important and a treat every now and then is a good treatment for that as it shows I am in control and not my diabetes.

Each to their own and some may not agree but I have never obsessed about my illness and I don't spend hours a day analysing and measuring everything I eat. In fact I've never done that.

I know my diabetes. I'm careful but fundamentally I eat what I like. I take insulin so why not use it to my advantage once and a while !

If a non diabetic has a treat their pancreas gives them a little more insulin. I see it as the same thing !
