My last HB1AC was 49.

Looking at others highs and lows, mine seems reasonable for a beginner.
Can someone explain to me why I am not in the higher values.

This depends on different things, how insulin resistant you are/were, how early in the progression that you were diagnosed and how and when (or even if) you choose to address the condition.

My reading in June last year was 50.
In Oct 17 it was 45.

I am guessing that our Intermittent Fasting, lowish complex carb/high protein regime has helped keep it almost in check.
I take Prednisolone and Methotrexate so have been fighting against the tide.

It's not easy when there are multiple conditions to consider along with the treatments those other conditions demand.
