Type of diabetes

Treatment type
I do not have diabetes
Just spoke to the Drs receptionist who wanted to book a non urgent appointment as my first HbA1c has just come back as abnormal but told me it was nothing to worry about. It's 80, I was under the impression it should be under 48. Can someone please confirm is this is high or not?
I currently do not have any diagnosis.

80 is well into diabetes territory, yes. It fits with the high numbers you've been seeing with finger pricking as well.
When will you have your appointment?

Worrying won't be useful of course, but reading up to go to that appointment well prepared with all your questions seems to be a good idea!

Good luck!

Antje's right, as are you. That's a diabetic range kind of number. Nothing to panic about, and you can bring it back down to normal levels most likely, with just a few changes in diet.

Yeah, I know, that sounds stupidly simple, and I'm aware that it isn't, for you. So how about listing what foods you can and can't eat at the present, and if there's a specific reason why a certain food isn't an option, as it may rule others out or in as well. Take your time and be as knit-picky as possible without triggering anxiety. This is to help you, after all, not make things worse. You decide where your limits lie.

Take it easy. I think I've told you before, there's more options out there than diet. But it is the most effective/fast thing to try. If you can and want to go that route, we're more than willing to help. And while I am not well-versed in medications, others here most certainly are, so there's always someone who can help you on your chosen path, okay? You're going to be fine, whichever way this turns out.

Hugs,
Jo

Thank you for your replies. I called the GPs again and have managed to get myself some Metformin, a glucose testing machine, strips and lancets! I wasn't expecting the machine but it saves my pocket a whole load.
I'll see the GP on Tuesday and will spend some time this week getting some questions together.

How the **** did you get a monitor :) . It's impossible where i live. I went low carb, having previously done Keto purely to lose weight, (25kg in 4 months). Went to see nursey all primed with info about it being educational to me, based on NICE guidelines, to be shot down in flames, before i even opened my mouth, with excellent result, your latest Hba1c is 36.

I honestly have no idea! I'm a bit miffed as I have spent a fortune on my own and testing strips so I now have 2. I am hoping to do low carb but need to really sit down and figure it out as I have ARFID as well and currently have no useful veg or any fish in my diet. That's a brilliant HbA1c level, well done.
