Been to see the diabetic nurse yesterday.
She is not happy with my HbA1c it was 47.
Was told it was too low means I have had Hypo's
Which she said I am never meant to have as I am on insulin. I did think 47 was very good control so now very confused.
Background - was OK on one metformin pill a day for a couple of years. Gp nurse Tried to put me on 2 a day I was so bad could not leave house as was in the loo all the time. So tried one Sr metformin which made it so had to stay nearer to the loo after a week I said no way can I do this. So taken of all meds and had to wait to hospital team could see me. By the time seen my blood sugars was running at about 22 to 25.3. Was told I could not have any of the other meds as gallstones, depression, high blood pressure, think I could have IBS. So put on very low insulin which worked well for a year.
Nurse thinks it could be I have been a bit depressed so want me to see gp and maybe put up my meds (had depression on and since I was a kid since adult coped with it without med to 5 years a go went on a very low dose of meds.)
All my blood test I do are between 5 and 15 she thinks Hypo's in middle of night
Any ideas anyone please

Sounds like you are doing great! Congrats on getting your glucose control back.

If there is any concern about hypo, then they should provide you with a Libre Flash glucometer to determine if that is really occuring.

There are some conditions which make an hba1C read lower or higher than your actual blood sugar readings would suggest.
Maybe ask your nurse to do a fructosamine test instead?

Interesting to see the different standards between T2 and T1. As a T1, on insulin for 48 years, I'd be very happy with a hbA1C of 47. But pretty well all T1s get occasional hypos...

47 gives an average blood sugar of 7.7. If most of your readings are nearer the 5 range than the 15, that may well be possible without any hidden night hypos?

I agree with the others. Congrats on your results.

I think an A1c of 47 is fair grand, all things considered. To be frank, without the data from a cgm your nurse really is guessing is she not? And I do not understand her statement that while one is on insulin one is never meant to have hypos, of course hypos are to be avoided but they happen...

I don't think your nurse knows her posterior from her olecranon process.............keep doing what you're doing, you're managing well!

well done with your progress:)
bit confused about the HbA1c of 47 being to low when i got mine down from 63 to 32 my diabetic nurse was surprised and very happy.
Maybe I have misunderstood I don't know a great deal about T1 and insulin use.
