Hi all, it has been a while since I was last here an dhope you're all coping ok, but i'm concerned regards certain readings being marked as above range, I'm still struggling somewhat, currently still on empagliflozin, Novorapid and i've been given ezetimibe. I'm supposed to have toujeo but like i keep telling them, it burns me when i inject no matter where so I've become quite fed up with it. my waking bloods right now seems to be between 8 -12mmol and yet, i'm on a very low carb diet, i don't think I consume above 30 a day trouble is I find it almost impossible to excercise only some days walking is quite an issue with my hips and groins feeling like a cheese grater and my legs literally hurt to walk on and when I tell the heatlh professionals they give me that puzzled look.

I have an appointment on the 11th at the healthy living clinic, so long as they don't try and push me to eat grains and other carbs i hope it shall go ok. Looking at my results and to be honest i'm clueless, but a couple of readings concern me wondering if the NHL has returned or what, I do have constant infections in my gums, i've had 5 taken out in under 14 months, I was waiting so long to get an appointment when they did take three out in one go the roots had gone necrotic so no wonder I've issues if my body is trying to fight infections like that and all they said, oh, we can see why you were in pain!

I'm having another taking out within the next couple of months and more work to try and save the front ones, meanwhile i'm no better off and my count is always high, I even started taking Vanadium to try and help somehow though strangely enough, my HBA1C has gone down from 98 to 75 in a mere few months which is good I suppose, it was 120 for a year following the radiotherapy and has continued to go down marginally every year since.

I'm in constant anxiety too which apparently doesn't help, lost my hubby last year after 22 years though it's all good and I'm actually ok and getting by, the last 2-3 years of his life he drove me nuts as he had cancer too and it went to his brain and he done a lot of crazy stuff so i'm actually grateful he's gone to a better place but hes left a right aftermath that i've had to try and resolve and i'm still not done quite yet. Anyhow, enough of that!

I was hoping to get my bloods down by doing this carnivore thing but i'm doing something wrong because every time i've started it i've neded up in hospital with DKA only they've told me to keep taking the canagliflozin and i believe it's that which is doing it, I'm not asking anyone to tell me what to take or not, but any advice with this would be really helpful, i feel like i'm almost on the right path, i've lost two stones too and feeling much better for it but i'm still getting those high morning sugars. The only time i can get down to say 5-6 mmol is if i don't eat all day long and only have the one early evening meal, trouble is, like someone else mentioned here, I'm absolutely starving all the time to the point of having the shakes or jitters, th eonly time i can stop them if i break my cycle and have a low carbzone wrap with a low or zero carb filling but it still spikes me.

@MillieT, Hi I found that Gluten and dairy sent my blood glucose really high. I have excluded them from my diet and it has helped to bring them down.

Hi there @MillieT so sorry you are going through all this. Reading through your post it sounds like you are on the right path. And you have done well to get your HbA1C down to 75. I’m assuming, as you are on insulin, you were seeing an endocrinologist. Did you get any answers as to why you ended up with DKA? Have they tested to see how much of your own insulin you are producing? I may be wrong, but it seems unusual for someone with T2 to go into DKA as T2‘s usually over produce insulin due to a high level of insulin resistance, so the body compensates by producing even more insulin. DKA, as far as I’m aware is the result of lack of insulin. Without enough insulin the body starts to burn fat , your blood becomes too acidic, and you produce ketones.

It does sound like you have had a very stressful few years. Stress, of course, raises your blood sugars as do Infections. All raise insulin resistance and oxidative stress . What is your diet like? Now I am no expert on diets, and the very low carb diet did next to nothing for my blood sugars, but there could be things you can change and tweak. Proteins and fats are usually quite filling, but you mentioned the fact that you feel hungry. I’m going to tag @Chris24Main . He has a good grasp of the endocrine system, insulin resistance, insulin and inflammation and how these factors affect the body’s energy system.
And just to say, nobody can force you to eat carbs.

Hi Melgar,

Firstly, thank you so much for taking time out and respond.
I haven't seen an endicrinologist anytime since I was diagnosed with type II. Last time I was in hospital with DKA i was there nearly a week only apparently I believe my potassium levels were down? one of those anyhow, they refused to let me out until they were stabilised. Theyv'e categorically told me that the Keto diet obviously doesn't work for me and to stop it and to eat wholegrains, bread and pasta which I blatantly refuse to do so. As far as I'm aware I've gone to DKA twice now and it's because they've told me to continue taking the empagliflozin - even when low carbing and i honestly think this is what makes me feel so rough.

Here's a phenomenon for you and everyone else, If for example i wake up on say 12mmol or above, I have the most horrendous toothache and I can tell you what my level is without taking a test, 99% correct. If however my sugars like yesterday afternoon were 6mmol my gums in certain areas bleed, my dentists seems to make a joke of this. To add to this they can't rule out diabetes for my gum disease only after the radiotherapy which was on my head, it has eroded my jawbone and hence why the upper three which were removed had gone necrotic, I was fighting that infection all the way through covid and trying to manage in quite horrendous pain to the point of feeling quite suicidal, even taking strong pain meds never touched it.

Yes i do feel hungry a lot and try to take my mind off it, i don't have those low carbzone wraps every day and if i have say poached eggs and some cheese and olives for brunch that just about takes me to my main meal, trouble is, it doesn't matter what i eat, it still spikes me.
