Hi all,

I was diagnosed last Aug as type 1 and first HbA1c was 6.6.

Latest results back today and were 5.7.

Any thoughts on if this is good, bad, awesome, terrible. What should I now do?

JC

Yeah that's a terrible result!

Great result Joelcam, 5.7 is brilliant mate, very well done! :D

Thanks for the quick replies...I was a bit uncertain because of this I found...

rajeun.net/HbA1c_glucose.html

According to this guy my control is bad?

I cannot do anymore than I am at the moment to be honest so this website bothers me a bit..I was hoping for 4.something!

Frankly.....and this is my personal view here, this site you mentioned which I have made non-clickable BTW, is rubbish. Your HbA1c is very good as previous posters have said. As you are a
Type 1 then to have a HbA1c in the 4's would no doubt mean that you would be close to or in Hypoglaemic territory most of the time.

Not a good idea for a T1.

Which website bothers you........this site.....or the Toussier site ??? Should have a Govt health warning especially in regard to Type 1.

Ken

Okay, thanks Ken.

No, the site I posted up bothers me..

This site is amazing...it's one of the key reasons I managed to get my head around becoming a T1 and stopped me losing my marbles! Keep up the good work!

Diabetics don't get a break here... There is no forgiveness, and no special mercy for diabetics. You bend or you die, whether it is your fault or not, and whether or not it is more difficult for you than for non-diabetics.

This site should be banned from the internet !!

Your Hba1c is brilliant ! Getting such low numbers as Toussier's site advocates would mean you being hypo a lot of the time. What sort of quality of life would that be ?

Diabetes is to be controlled and lived with not suffered from.

Joel,
Your HbA1c shows you are doing very well.
You can't take any notice of this dangerous idiot. He operates safe from legal controls in Mexico. He isn't aiming his page at you but at gullible Americans . He is attempting to persuade them that they can regain their youth by lowering their already non diabetic glucose levels .To do this he advocates the use of insulin (for non diabetics!) and other hormones which he sells .

I think I'll double my dose, then I'll be 21 again :!:

5.7% is better than most.
As to that website, Ellis Toussier isn't even a diabetic. He's an idiot, using insulin to get his own HbA1c down into the 4s.
There's precious little work been done on what constitutes a "normal2 HbA1c in non-diabetics, but 1 set of figures I found give an average of 5.1%.
It may well be that "ideal" is in the 4s, but it's difficult to achieve and needs care and knowledge to do it safely,
I wouldn't say that you shouldn't keep it as an ambition, but you are still new to all this and most people would be delighted to get your numbers so quickly

Hi Joelcam

Your hba1c is that of a non diabetic person. 5.7% is all ok as long as your daily bg levels are not on the low side. By this I mean bg levels of 2, 4 and 7 on a daily basis. Although you may have really good awareness of hypos now what will happen to you within the next few years will be that your awareness will only be when your bg level drops somewhere below 3.5 more like 2.

I am not sure what your D consultant will say to you or dsn but I would imagine that they will want to chat to you to find out how much insulin you are injecting and the amount of carb you are eating to acheive such a low hba1c.

Just be really careful if you drive a car and make sure that your bg levels go up to 8 before you even think of putting your keys in the ignition.

just a thought but if you arent diabetic and your levels reach 4. something surely your body will release glucose to make the levels more to your normal level.

by the way 5.7 is brilliant but if your consultant is anything like my sons we havent been asked how we have acheived a 5.6.
