Careful. I assume you mean 68mmol (= 8.3%) down to 64mmol (8%)
Don't be too down. It has gone down! So it is going in the right direction.

Lol, sorry yes, that's what I meant. It's confusing having two ways to read it and I always get mixed up in which one is percent and which isn't. Durrrrh! :***:

Yes, you are right, it is the right direction and I guess slowly does it with the proliferative retinopathy. But thinking back to how rough my health was back then, compared to now where I'm able to eat normally and know what to do regarding injections and carb counting; I guess I was just hoping for a better result for my efforts.

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. x

Don't beat yourself up Hooked, a drop from 8.4% to 8% should be applauded

Remember you have to learn to walk before you can run, I think in light of your retinopathy problems you are wise to reduce your Hba1c slowly and not cause further damage.

Thanks. :)

I feel like this! I've had poor control pretty much forever (my fault) and my last HBA1c was 14.8 (138). Not good at all. Here's to hoping next time I have one done, it will be better.

Fingers crossed for you. :)

I was pleasantly surprised earlier this week. I was expecting my HBA1C to have gone up again slightly; but it's down to 7.3! :D Though my levels can swing between 2.0 and 21 in a day which isn't good; but at least things are improving slightly. I also finally managed to see the diabetic consultant and get on the waiting list for a pump. Fingers crossed.

Woohoo! Slow and steady decrease is all it takes :)

I went from 14 in February, to 8.7 in April to 6.1 in September. Some pretty big drops which I wasn't expecting! It's made me a little lazy which is not good. I'm having another hba1c in 2 weeks just before DAFNE. I think I will have gone up, but I'll be disappointed if it's gone up above 7!

Well done you! :D Hope you enjoy the course as well, I found it very helpful.

I'm really looking forward to it. I'm hoping it will consolidate what I've already learnt on this forum!

Hi Folks, would appreciate some feedback on the efficacy of the HBA1c test. I am a late onset (aged 30 when it happened) Type 1 diabetic aged 45 - I am a geologist and travel extensively, working in remote field sites and also an office environment some of the time. The upshot is that this is a very dynamic situation and obviously very difficult to control due to varying time zones, food types, degree of exercise etc. When I am working in the field for extended periods and trekking several km's per day, I do not need to inject at all, as even one unit will result in severe hypos. My blood sugar is well in control for probably >80% of the time, and it is very sensitive, a 1 unit error in the insulin dose can drop my blood sugar to hypo levels and it varies on a day to day basis. I was informed by a doctor some time ago that the HBA1c test has an issue in that occasional highs will lead to an overly elevated result that does not reflect the general good control. My last reading was 9.5 but I cannot routinely inject more insulin to correct this, and have to reactively correct the occasional super-highs or bring up the occasional super low when they occur. I have not experienced any side effects yet, to my mind the best indicator is the routine tests of my retina health. Does anyone have any similar experiences, should I be worried, or should I just continue to manage this as I am currently? Cheers, Richard
