Hi all,
New to the forum so hopefully not posting something that's been hashed and rehashed to death. Been on keto for a couple years now and although weight loss is minimal, energy is up, pain is under control, Hba1c normal, and I just feel so much better. For the record I'm a pretty hefty gal at 5'9" approx 23 stone. I fell off the diet wagon over the Xmas period so when the dr. ran the yearly lot of blood tests for me the Hba1c was elevated (unfortunately my surgery will not release the exact result over the phone so I have no idea how high but based on my readings I am just over the line-not wildly out of control - fasting 6 - 7 and high side of normal readings the rest of the time over holidays). They are chasing me to have a retest now (about 3 weeks on) to confirm diabetes. My issue is that the Hba1c averages over roughly 12 weeks so how is 2 weeks going to be that much different. I know that on keto I will be within the normal range. I have my own blood sugar monitor so am reading fasting in the morning, post prandial, and random a couple more times a day so I know where I am.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this happen where they seem really eager to tick the box with you so they can get you on to metformin. My liver has enough to cope with as I have to take meds for other conditions. Just needed to have a whinge I guess. Will keep dodging until end of April and have the retest when, based on the last couple of weeks readings, it should be normal again. Thanks for letting me have a moan =)

They usually run 2 HbA1c's in a 2-4 week period to confirm diagnosis. Making sure one test wasn't a one off or faulty.
If you are in England you should be able to register to get your test results online. I do and it reduces friction between me and the surgery no end. Depending on the second result they may try to get you onto metformin. I was diagnosed at 87 mmol/m so got it immediately but stopped taking it after 3 weeks and got my sugars down via low carb and then progressing onto keto.
In your shoes I'd go in and have it.. you'll get more info and get them off your back.

The second test is to confirm the first test. I had two 8 days apart. By ‘dodging til the end of April’ you are only cheating yourself of an accurate diagnosis. You don’t have to take meds offered and you know how to put it right but if you have tipped into Diabetes you’ll get all the check ups you’re entitled to, to make sure you’re not getting damage to your eyes, feet etc...
