can anyone confirm how often this test should be carried out? Is it every 3 months or every 6 months. My new diabetic nurse gave me the impression it is 6 monthly, but I'm sure I've had it done 3 monthly at my old surgery?

The HbA1c should be done at least every 12 months. I think depending on your blood sugar control you may be offered it a 3 or 6 monthly intervals.
When I was on all medication, including insulin, I was getting tested every 3 months. Now I'm off medication it's been 6 months and I expect I won't be called for 12 months next time.

I'm normally once every 6 months due to all the meds I'm on, they normally do a routine test and I always ask for HbA1c to be done as well otherwise it would be every 12

The default is every 12 months if you are stable and it has been low before. Yes, it may become every 3 or 6 months if it has been rising or you are on insulin.
