I wasn't sure where to post this but decided on keeping it positive as thats how I'm feeling.:)

Home a1c test 5/5 = 37 (delighted as down from initial reading in December of 62)
Surgery a1c 14/5 = 41 (delighted as down from February's 47 but disappointed as I was expecting it to be lower obviously) but still in the pre diabetic... almost non diabetic range and the print out said 'normal'
Home a1c test done to compare on 15/5 (the day I got my results) and it showed a reading if 44!!!!
I've resorted to mysugr with help to get going from @Rachox.

My weight down by 41 lbs as of today. On the LCHF diet. Couldn't have done it without you guys. Never had an ounce of determination in my body before discovering this forum and the wonderful people on here. I can't thank you enough giving your time and expertise so freely.

My question is about cholesterol. It's gone up since my last a1c in February from 5.2 to 6.8. I must admit I'm a tad concerned. Will it keep going up? Shall I eat less fat?

The breakdown is as follows:
4.95 LDL
1.85 HDL
0.99 TRI

If anyone is clued up on cholesterol I would love your guidance. I've read various info which is conflicting even on nhs choices which says it might not be as bad as we think it us for us! Any help much appreciated. I'm going to add this in the ask a question section to :-) @bulkbiker can you perhaps help?

I hope MySugr gives you better estimates than the A1C Now gadget. It must be disappointing that it seems so far out for you, especially as it’s not cheap.
I would tag @bulkbiker and @Bluetit1802 too. They both have good knowledge on cholesterol and results in general.
One useful fact to know about cholesterol rising, is that it can happen during rapid weight loss. I had it happen. Also my last test showed the total was the same as the previous one but the numbers within the breakdown improved, enough to stall the statin talk with my GP!

My LDL went up too with low carbs. I've heard that it is common. Like yours, Trigs and HDL are good. I've started to limit saturated fats in favour of unsaturated types so now only 20g / day of saturated fats and no cut back on unsaturated. See what turns up in late July when my next bloods are due.

Sorry the home A1c was so inaccurate, but remember that MySugar is only as good as the figures you enter. All it does is average your entries and convert the measurement units. So if you have peaks post meal that you miss, you will not get accurate results.

As for the cholesterol I responded on your other thread. I would add that if those results were mine I would not be changing my diet at the expense of my blood sugar levels, or enjoyment of my food. Your trigs/HDL ratio is the important one and that is good.
