When I was first diagnosed my level was 87.
Had first blood test last Friday and result today was 58!!!

Now I want to celebrate.

I am craving sweets like never before. In fact I would kill for a sweet. Just went into sainsbury and picked some up then threw them down and came out!!

Apparently I have decided because I’m nearly normal again I can relax!!

And breathe!

Breathe certainly, relax - be cautious. You are certainly going in the right direction but stay vigilant. Congratulations are definitely in order.

Google fat bombs to satisfy sweet cravings.

Cubes of chedder, cubes of spam, handful of those little party sausages. If you have the teeth for it pork scratchings, are my nibbles now.

Or, family fav, home made coleslaw. Nothing but cabbage, bit of carrot, onion, cucumber all grated up (dice the cucumber) and some big scoups of full fat mayo. Don't last 2min in my house.

Great progress, keep it up!

I have loads of fat bombs in freezer. Just couldn’t get on with them.
Had some dark chocolate but only wanted sweet.
Ate beef jerky
Fridge raiders (disgusting but low carb and food)
Ate more today than I usually do in a week I think but stayed from sweets.
Although fighting the cravings lasted from 9.45 this morning to well, still there. Will be glad to go to bed to get some respite.

Hi Cana, well done! What have you been eating to drop it like this over the last few months and what did you eat today? It's normal to think yaaaay after all your hard work but easy to undo it just as quickly. I'm guessing you want it to keep dropping? x

you are normal when your HbA1c is under 36,
so don´t celebrate too fast

if you want the taste of sugar sucralose tastes almost like real sugar, it is expensive but it is also not that healthy ..here below you can see the normal range which is only the green area

I know it’s not normal range. But compared to the 87 I started at it’s a huge difference and I’m now not far from the normal range.
I thought anything under 41 was normal? Where did 36 come from?

Well done - a huge improvement. You are well on the way to becoming 'normal '.

In the UK anything under 42 is normal - bearing in mind that our 'normal ' may be different from someone else's 'normal '.

A normal healthy person will have an HbA1c level under 42 mmol/mol. Pre-diabetes ranges from 43-47 mmol/mol. Above that is diabetic level.29 Jun 2018

Great HbA1c reduction @Cana - well done! :)
You can get 'sugar free' sweets in Sainsburys, other big supermarkets and health stores. Werthers do sugar free butter candies, there are sugar free Polo mints, and Ricola do a range of sugar free sweets. But they should be eaten in moderation as they can have laxative effects.

Congratulations! But try not to associate celebration or reward with sweet things or you could undo your good work.

make some dark chocolate truffles. Double cream and dark chocolate, can also add some almonds to them, chill, roll into balls then roll in ground almonds or cocoa powder. Keep them in the fridge.

You have done one step forward better than undo
Please continue to improve
It took me some improvement a year
Congratulations

Watch out for those which claim to be sugar free or no added sugar, but are loaded with carbs - you need to read the labels really carefully.
Your progress towards normal might not be so swift in coming months - I saw 91 to 47 is just 80 days, and at 6 months, 41, so it can be slow going after the first drop. I think that the lack of progress since was down to an abscess - infection can raise BG levels, and I am trying to keep my BG low, I so want to get into the 30s. I am going to beat this - 'relax' isn't in my vocabulary.

@Freema - I'm joining with @Cana in enquiring where your normal from an HbA1c of 36 comes from?
well yes from Bernstein and from the color in the above scheme the green area is the truely healthy area, I thibk the scheme is from this site but maybe I am wrong

Whilst the chart is from this site and does show definite green downwards form 36, I think for those nearer the beginning of their journey than we might be, it could be overwhelming to suggest numbers significantly below diagnostic thresholds as being the place to be.

For me, closer to the beginning of my own journey, my goals were somewhat movable feasts (pardon the pun), beginning with "lower, towards diagnostic thresholds", then having achieved that (73>37), my goal was to maintain it, not expecting any further downward shift.

At the outset, I think I would have found a target of <37 to be probably unachievable. Obviously, we're all different in our approaches.
