Just thought I’d let you all know that my HbAc1 test result has gone from 92 down to 55! I was really shocked and pleased with the result. It seems they have got me on the right meds (Metformin).

The diabetic nurse I saw though, had no records of my stay in hospital when they diagnosed me with diabetes type 2, and was horrified that I hadn’t been given any advice on how to help manage it. She’s booked me back in to see her for a crash course, and also put my name down a diabetes day school thingy.

One bad thing from seeing her, I’ve been told my cholesterol is way too high, so she’s put me on statins. Yet another bloody pill to take. With all my problems of this, that, and the other, I’m on 14 tablets a day now, plus any extras for pain, headaches and anxiety.

It sounds like you don't need any crash courses! Well done. :)

Did you ask her what your cholesterol was, and what the breakdown was? On what basis did she prescribe statins?

Well done! Metformin and nothing else? Lifestyle/diet changes?

No. I’ll ask her when I see her next week. I could also ask my GP. I’m seeing him next week too.

Don't just ask, ask for a print out of the test results. You can then analyse them at leisure and ask on here if you don't understand them.

I resisted statins... made a deal with the doc that would review in 3 months...if the diet and lifestyle changes had not fixed my particular problem (high triglycerides)

Just seen the nurse and she said my cholesterol was 7.2

They would consider that as high. I found that cutting my carbs helped to lower my total cholesterol, and increasing my intake of cream and full fat yoghurt increased it from 4 to 5.7. It will be slightly different for everyone and something you might like to deal with by change of diet . . . possibly, entirely your choice.
