My honest opinion is do what YOU know is working, ignore anything and anyone who tells you different. You have learned by your own research and experimentation what works for you, so why would you possibly want to listen to anything different?

Wow. 7 to 14 portions of starchy carbohydrates a day!

They also give exactly the wrong advice in the oils section "maximise vegetable oils apart from coconut or palm oil". I wonder if they think that we evolved to eat mechanically recovered vegetable fats. Tssssk.

Ignore, ignore, ignore. This website offers dangerous and stupid advice that will seriously increase your chance of complications.

Thanks for this, it'll be useful ammunition against DUK on Tuesday night.

"Don't eat ready meals because they are high in fat and salt and don't contain much carbohydrate".

I suppose you could make them better by pouring some sugar on them.

I'm surprised there aren't dead diabetics in the aisles of the DUK supermarket.

If you feel better on your present diet, you should follow your instincts, but the choice ultimately is yours. It's your body, your diabetes and the decisions on how to manage your condition are yours.

I haven't really discussed what I eat with my doctor or diabetic nurse, but they can see that I've lost a mass of weight and all my parameters are within normal limits and are pleased with my progress. When I was diagnosed I was given a leaflet about food and reading it, realised that that was the food I was already eating and decided to do my own thing.

I put in all my details into the menu planner, this was my menu - eek!! I think I'll pass.

Your requirements have been estimated from the data you entered. Your sample daily menu is below. Remember that this is only a guide and a starting point to help you with portion sizes. Foods in the menu plan can be interchanged - it is important to eat a varied and balanced diet. Talk to your registered dietitian for specific advice about your diet.

Breakfast

Small glass of fruit juice or a portion of fruit (see below for what's a portion)
4 tablespoons of muesli or 4 tablespoons of porridge oats or 2 weetabix or 2 shredded wheat or 6 tablespoons of other cereal with 200mls semi-skimmed/skimmed milk
or
2 slices of toast or 2 crumpets or 1 bagel or 1 muffin with 2 teaspoons of sunflower or olive oil spread and 2 teaspoons jam/marmalade/honey

Lunch

sandwich made with 2 slices bread or 1 bread roll or 1 pitta or 1 tortilla/wrap or 4 crispbreads with salad and
2-3 oz (60 - 85g) of cooked meat/poultry or vegetarian alternative or 4 - 5 oz (120 - 140g) tuna/sardines/mackerel or 3 1/2 oz (100g) cooked prawns or 2 boiled eggs
2 teaspoons low fat mayonnaise
with 2 teaspoons of sunflower or olive oil spread
Dessert: 1 low fat or diet yogurt

Dinner

6 tablespoons pasta/cous-cous/noodles or 4 tablespoons easy cook rice/basmati rice/bulgar wheat or 4 egg sized potatoes
with 6 tablepsoons vegetables or large portion of salad with low calorie dressing
2-3 oz (60 - 85g) of meat/poultry or 4 - 5 oz (120 - 140g) fish or 2 eggs or vegetarian alternative or 3 tablespoons pulses, beans or lentils
Dessert: 1 scoop ice cream and a portion of fruit (see below for what's a portion)

Additional daily milk allowance

1/3 pint (200mls) milk
Snacks

2 portions fruit and 1 biscuit. 1 portion = 1 banana, apple, orange, pear. 1 slice of a large fruit like melon or mango. 2 small fruit such as plums or apricots, handful of grapes, cherries or berries. 1 tablespoon of dried fruit

This is menu C.

Davide. It's not for me or anyone to tell you not to go and eat carbs that's your choice. If you think it might work then maybe you should try it but make sure you do it with your meter so you can see if you stay safe. If you find you can eat loads of carbs then fine eat them if not and you still want to try eating loads of carbs go to your doctor and ask for stronger meds or insulin to help you eat those carbs. The bottom line is carbohydrates will raise you blood sugar levels not even DUK will deny that, certainly the official UK 2012 NHS documents on diabetes don't. Just remember if your levels run too high for too long you will run some very high risks including blindness and amputation. Good luck.

I think that they must have forgotten to include "a massive bucket full of insulin".

Orange juice, with a bagel and some jam.

Show me one diabetic that could tolerate that.

Or pre booked a bed at the local hospital. This diet is appalling, especially for T2's.

Hmm. Try tweaking some of the "personal details"..especially about weight and see what diets you come up with. Seems to be the same coming up time after time.

Am going to start a boring thread about this elsewhere.

Apart from the porridge, to me that seems an absolutely dire menu. I ate stuff like that before and ended up with dangerously high sugar levels and a stroke.

I went and had a look and put male in by mistake and came up with exactly the same menu as when I realised my error and put in female.

Is this for real???

I just cant believe this is a diet for those watching their sugars
Believe it.
On the DESMOND course i got kicked out of they were advising people.."If you eat 2 Twix's a day then we reccommend eating only 1 and that way you've reduced by 50% and it won't be a problem" Load of bol*@#ks!! :x

Thats what I was getting at Didie..I put in my own weight, then three different weights (vastly different by the way) and they all came up with the same plan. the exception is for the highest weight possible, think it was 21 stone.

They advised 9..yes 9..tablespoons of cereal. Think that was waht it said..am open to corrections of course.

WOW!!!

I am going on a DESMOND course on June 25th. Could be interesting

I refused to attend one and my GP agreed, saying he knew I would get nothing from it.

I was relieved when they took me to one side and told me they believed this wasn't the best education course for me with my view on things- because in all honesty I thought I was going to blow a gasket!! Their teachings equated to death for us 'pancrei challenged' but very sadly the other people on the course thought the "Have what you want but have less" advice was great!
