Hello,,, 1st post but been watching for a while.. Type 2 for a year diet and exercise controlled on yearly checks from GP is this right not quartly or sooner, not that i`m botherd well in control have become a fitness fanatic really enjoy the gym... and have become a keen Mountain biker entering all sorts of events...charity rides...etc..But be wondering why it says diabetics have to consult GP before using steam rooms, sunbeds, (dont say skin cancer please)....And is it ok too use those Science in sport energy bars, and Whey protein...just a thought because i do..regards Paul.xx

The reason Diabetics should be careful in Spa's, Hot Tubs and Saunas is because it can have quite an effect on your Bg levels and cause you to Hypo because of the heat.

Know nothing about the energy bars.

Ken.

hya and welcome to the forum,
i too know nothing about energy bars but as ken says, we need to be careful as heat can cause hypos

Hi Fitz and welcome,

The NICE guidelines that your GP is supposed to be following are that a newly diagnosed type 2, who is on diet and exercice control only, should have an HBA1C check every 3 months until he/she can show that they have continuing good control. At that point it can change to 6 monthly checks and only an annual check where the doctor has seen long-term proof that good blood sugar control has been maintained consistently. That would indicate a minimum period of at least 18 months of more frequent testing before you would be deemed "safe" enough to go to annual checks. As you have been diagnosed for only a year, your doctor is taking an enormous risk in putting you on annual checks. And the trouble is that it is you that is a risk, not your doctor.

Had all that 3months then...decided medication not needed...kept asking when collecting cholestrol pesrcription if any more meets for diebetes but ok....seems that have it well under control or just border line....eat and drink what i like in moderation as the exercise i do burns it up..never had a hypo/hyper can anyone tell me the symptons..P.S I`m 42years old still a rookie dont need cholestrol pills now either down too 2.5 from 11...

With ref HBA1C...what does that mean. I have just recently been diagnosed as type 2 (3 weeks ago). I keep seeing this refered to but doen't know what it means

sorry for delay in reply..Blood sugar is 5 never higher than 6 first thing....have breakfast roughly 5.5... 2 hrs later does vary thou..i said i eat and drink what i like i do with regards none sugary stuff/drinks..they are cut to the absolute minimum...at the docs end of month having a full blood count on monday shall be interesting
