Heart keeps thumping

Anybody's heart thumps like crazy just because of a little exertion like walking to the flight gate dragging along a 10kg luggage on wheels?
Just before I was diagnosed, I ran small marathons. Always very fit. Right after I was diagnosed, my heart starts thumping very fast just for me to get out of bed.

Hi @tinyfilosofer I've only ever had my hard thump really hard either when my sugars have been really low or really high. Do you test your sugars when feeling like that?

Whether high Low or in range. Anything that is physical will get it thumping. When I'm on biz trips and not at desk, it basically thumps everytime I'm walking around carrying a bit of weight.
Some said lack of insulin (even when in range) will cause thumping because of lack of energy for the heart.
But even after insulin and food it still thumps. It just keeps thumping no matter what I do. Doc did ecg and says the heart is looking happy.
But the thumping makes me want to throw up and it's a horrible feeling.

I guess gp checked blood pressure too?
Did gp advise on what you can do if it happens again?

Could it be stress-related - like when you're in a hurry rushing for a flight, etc?

I never believed that stress could have that effect until I noticed it myself.

The only other thing that makes my heart beat like that is a hypo, so,it's always worth testing just to rule that out.

Check your blood pressure standing up and when your pulse is fast. If it's low your heart will speed up to compensate, trying to raise the blood pressure. Also, some diabetics are prescribed a low dose ACEI, like lisinopril, for renal protection. The drugs are usually used to treat high blood pressure, so that could lower yours too much. BP kits are cheap.

You should mention all this to your Dr, having a fast heart rate just to get out of bed isn't right and needs investigated.

I have the same trouble and seeing a cardiologist about it due to then developing chest pains with an irregular ecg. A normal ecg with a prevous panic attack but an inverted t wave with chest pains now which could be from a possible build up of plaque in my left anterior descending artery. The artery where if a heart attack occurs death is very likely. The largest artery of the heart.
Please go back to see gp or a different one for a second opinion. GP can administer a drug in the interim, maybe?
If you develop chest pains ring 999. I know I'm type2 but other type1s have suggested the same.
Let us know how you get on. Please.

The OP didn't say how old they are, and didn't c/o chest pains. I bet You are a Type 2, and weigh 130kg with hyperlipidemia, so CAD is way more likely in your case. Might be time for an imaging stress test like Lexiscan Myoview, or coronary angiography even. Doesn't sound like the OP has the same situation as you. My gut feeling is that it's a younger female.

This makes sense cos I do have Low blood pressure. Maybe t1 just makes it more prominent?

Is it very bad to ask doc for a letter to skip the Long airport queue while carrying luggage? I've done 3 injections while in line now. 3 different times. My sugar just soar up and I get giddy.
There are some lines that take up to 30-45 mins. Gets giddy, check sugar, shot up. Have to do injection while balancing laptop bag, meds bag, winter coat. And people from behind pushing me on.
Sometimes I fly up to 5 times a week and it gets very tiring and scary esp when the heart starts thumping.

From what you describe here it really does sound like anxiety.

I'm like you, fit and healthy, can cycle for miles, run up stairs but put me in a stressful situation and my heart pounds and I get light headed at the slightest exertion.

Try some relaxation techniques, distract yourself with things in the airport queue maybe talk to someone about stress management.

I also have to put my basal insulin up when I fly because all the stress raises my sugars :(

The op is 37, 162cm weigh 52 kg.
No chest pain.

Did they suggest any reason for the thumping or any further tests?

Nope.
I suspected it was all the Diet Coke I've been drinking but after stopping for days still thumping even when I get out of the bath tub.

Seems like Low blood pressure is the biggest suspect here. Been drinking lotsa water and daily dose of coffee as prescribed by netizen for raising blood pressure. Will try it for a couple of weeks.

Like to thank everyone for the concern. The brainstorming is very useful!
