Heart Rate

Can diabetes and the hot UK mini heat wave cause raised heart rate.
The reason I ask is, I wear a fit bit blaze heart rate monitor and my HR recently has been jumping up to the 100's when moving around, when sitting it goes back to mid 70's.
Thanks

Well heat is literally movement, so your heart rate will almost certainly be higher, even if subtly, when it's warmer. Blood sugar level can also temporarily increase heart rate, speaking for myself if I feel my heart is beating faster than normal it's usually an indicator that my blood sugar is either approaching or in a hypo state, or in double digits.

That's interesting. I've always been aware of feeling and hearing my heartbeat, but since starting Metformin a couple of weeks ago I now rarely do, it feels most odd but hopefully it's good.
Hope you find the answer Marcus.

I at a bit of loss with this one.
I felt poorly with the usual diabetes signs etc, the worst is probably the light headed dizziness. I was diagnosed with type 2 and told because my cholesterol was 7.5 that I also have Familial hypercholesterolemia and high blood pressure.
Since the diagnosis I have started with dizziness, faster heart rate (I only know its fast because I look at my fit bit heart monitor, yet I don't feel my heart beating fast)
I rang the doctors today (a miracle for me) to ask the receptionist if the doctor could prescribe anything to stop the dizziness. Receptionist said she would speak with the doctor and call me back, she didn't call back.
I don't know if my faster heart rate/dizziness is due to FH, Diabetes, Metformin, hot weather or health anxiety stress.

What does your fitbit give as your resting heart rate?
I also have a fitbit and it gives a graph of HR across the day and a figure for resting heart rate. With mine, my heart rate is, unsurprisingly, lowest when Im aslepp ( usually in the 50’s) then varies across the day - usually between 60’s and 100 with occasional peaks into 110’s - usually when gardening. My resting heart rate, according to fitbit, ranges between 64 and 69.
Im never 100% sure how accurate Fitbit are mind you - one night it had me as still being asleep nearly an hour after Id woken up

Hi Boo,
My resting heart rate varies between 67-70. My bpm rate had been fluctuating quite a lot since Monday. When I wake in the morning it is usually 57-60 and when up and moving around it stays in the late 70s early 80s. Since Monday it has been late 80s-100s with moving around. Wondering if it is due to the hot weather, my wife put it on our way home from work and her bpm touched 100, so I'm beginning to think it is the hot weather. Don't know what the dizziness is with though.

I’ve attached a screenshot of my heart rate over a typical working day. As you can see it is stable when I’m sleeping, peaks when I go for a run and the rest of the time it bobs up and down all day frequently hitting 100 even though my resting pulse is c60.
This is quite normal - I’ve recently had ECGs so I know it’s ok for me.
Obviously if you are concerned at all then speak to your doctor but don’t be surprised if your rate jumps about a bit.C804611A-2C48-4BD3-878C-034B050DF474.png

Thanks Rhubarb.
Your screenshot is similar to what mine show's.
I wear my Fitbit all the time and my HR is always up and down depending on what I'm doing. It was only recently when I noticed it was higher than normal for me. My wife wore it for a short while and her HR was high as well so I am presuming it is due to the hot weather which us UK residents are not use to.

There is a lot of variation in heart rate over the day, and depending on lifestyle and fitness levels.
I wouldn't waste time worrying about it, unless you saw consistent issues. At which point I would ask for professional input, rather than trusting the gadget. What you describe sounds very normal, and certainly matches my experience.

I don't think the fitness trackers are accurate, and I certainly wouldn't trust them for any kind of diagnosis.
In fact I think they can be very misleading if we assume they are more than a fun toy giving vaguely interesting data.
In my experience of 3 Fitbits, a much cheaper brand, and now an Apple Watch, they regularly mis-count my daily steps, and the heart rate count is usually different from my own manual count. So I just shrug and dismiss the figures most of the time.
