Just some advice needed really can I use heat pads on my knee joints as I'm T1 with complications and other problems, diagnosed with osteoarthritis some years ago in right knee after traffic accident it become considerably bad 2 years ago and in the last year both knees are just as bad as each other, I do have a high pain threshold but it's now too much to cope with. Was told when investigated that the leg has grown rotated to the right with a 25 mm shortening and surgery would be too complex and risky, the last 12 weeks I've become less active and both knee give way so easy, I want to just try heat pads and knee supports before I pay yet another trip to my doc's.
Any advice ? :-(

Im no expert on this but cant imagine a hot water bottle that is mildly warm could do you any harm.
Just make sure its not too hot. Or if you are a fatty like me 2 hot water bottles.

I would check first, some heat products say they are not to be used by diabetics especially those who have circulatory problems or nerve damage.

Thanks have tried water bottles in past without much success but will try again, did wonder if some of the lower leg pain was just neuropathy pain as I do have this but I don't want to use pads or supports if it's going to do more damage than good. I also forgot to mention that I can't have anti flamitry as of the gastric tablets I'm on, but thanks for your valued advice

I'd be more inclined to use ice packs rather than heat, although I didn't know heat of a morning for stiffness is advised followed by Ice of an evening for inflamation

have you tried a simple pressure knee pad from the chemist, my dad gets relief with that as it provides some support to the joint.

Thanks Jack, I've printed article and briefly read it, that's never been suggested to me so I'll read and try later today, interesting.

I would use them, I can't see it being a problem. I go to bed with a hot water bottle every night. I too have osteoarthritis in various joints, I need something desperately for my shoulders!

I have tendinitis in both shoulders it's not as bad as it use to be, I've had various cortisone injections and 2 ops on left shoulder and 1 on right which have helped slightly perhaps you need a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon , wish you luck on finding help.

Hi Sarah,

Have you tried a wheat pillow, they are more malleable than a hot water bottle and will contour your shoulders.

Thank you, somebody suggested something a few weeks ago but I couldn't remember what it was and I think it was a wheat pillow, do you heat them in the microwave? The hot water bottle I use is for the base of my spine.

My doctor has referred me to my hospital to have an ultrasound of my shoulders.
