Hi Peeps,

Been lurking for a while after having a long long break from the forum. Thought i'd post here as it's been so long i may not be such a familiar name anymore!

Hope everyone is okay, oldies and newbies :)

I myself have been super busy, partly why i haven't posted here in aaages. I've moved house temporarily and will be moving again so have been house hunting, I've started a degree in Social sciences and due the the house move i'm also biking to work and back which takes 35-40 mins so i'm a pretty busy bee lately!

Still best friends with my pump and maintaining good BG's, by my standard of course. The biking to work is throwing me off every now and then but exercise has always affected me erratically so i'm happy enough with my control lately.

I've got a cracked tooth which i've found when i eat chocolate and only chocolate it causes me pain so severe i don't even want to think about it, which i've waited 3 months to have removed under anesthetic as i'm terrified of dentists being anywhere near my face! So i havent actually eaten chocolate since around the middle of January!!! I'm thinking this is my biggest acheivment since i've been away  It's getting removed on 16th April so i will definately have a chocolate free Easter this year

I'm due a HBA1c which i'm hoping will stay in the 6's and i'm actually hoping my diabetes clinic with loosen the reigns with me a little and let me go to 6 month reviews instead of three! So no update there, my next review is in the beggining of May so i'll be getting it done over the next few weeks!

Again i hope everyone is find and dandy, i'll be looking forward to hopefully finding time to post and get back ito the rythym of the forum as i don't know anyone close with diabetes i often don't have anyone knowledgeable to chat about Diabetes :)

Cheeeeers for Readin' :D

Welcome back ebony, hope your Hba1c result is satisfactory and your reviews are extended to 6 monthly :)

Hi Shahalam and welcome to the forum :) Ask any questions you like and someone will answer. Here is a link to the information we give to new members. I think you are not newly diagnosed but hope you will find something you can use in here:

Hi All,
This is my first post but have spent many hours reading through the site, having been diagnosed as T2 just a couple of weeks ago. I'm very grateful to have discovered such an informative site and supportive community. My initial diagnosis was at 10.3%. Looking back I recognise some symptoms ( thisrt, increased unrination etc) but they were not significantly troublesome to do anything about. My mistake. Eventually I sought a test myself when travelling after I checked into a hotel and immediately drank 4 cans of soft drink. Somehow I knew it was a symptom of diabetes, maybe from something I had read or heard on the radio. The diagnosis was confirmed at a clinic in Bangkok and I was put on 500mg Metformin ( Glucophage) x 2.
I have adopted a reduced carb diet and eliminated sugar. I have been checking my BG regularly and notice that almost all of my readings are within normal range ( with the exception of a couple of PP spikes which I attributed ...based on information here...to things I cannot tolerate easily, ie orange juice and milk). I found the 1st week of carb reduction very difficult but week 2 was easier and 3 easier still. Perhaps there is a brick wall waiting.
While I understand that I am diabetic and that the illness will require etarnal vigilance to manage, I don't quite get why my levels have dropped back to normal ( fasting, PP, random). Is this the medication working so fast or a combination of diet and metformin? Is there a 'honeymoon' period with this medication ? One more question: even though the BG is normal I am literally gushing urine, far more in fact than in the symptomatic phase before diagnosis. Normal? Any views appreiciated
cheers
