Hello - anyone there?

You may well find that starchy carbohydrates have a more pronounced effect on your blood glucose level than sugars. The only way to know what is right for you food wise is to self test.

Oooo-kaayy. I've calmed down now. BP is getting back to normal. Steam no longer coming from my ears.....
Don't know why I'm making such a fuss - you all told me what to expect. Saw the DSN this afternoon, explained what I've done so far to lower BG levels: no more sugar in tea, no cakes, choccy or bikkies. I offered to translate my alcohol intake into units but she said that was her job! I said how pleased I was that this week's pre-breakfast urine tests were all negative but what I really wanted, was to test my BG........oh dear.
The reply was, "you don't need to test your blood. That's my job. You come and see me every six weeks or so and I'll do it". So no machine.
Do I even need to say what the dietary advice was? Eat everything, including rice, pasta, potatoes, yadda, yadda.

Don't forget I'm just a newbie. I reckon I've got some decisions to make. And if she's reading this, I'm dead meat. :bag:

Hi nomoredonuts.. its not really a hard decision to make .. its your life, your eyesight, your feet, your condition and you should treat it as you want. If you have started to do well on a LCHF diet then carry on. Lots of people here have with great success. Get yourself a SD Codefree meter and test away. The Nurse is following her script but she doesn't have your life only you do.
It'e extremely annoying when healthcare professionals don't want to listen as they seem unwilling to learn from their patients but in the end you have to take control yourself. My Nurse wasn't interested, my Doctor was unaware so I carried on doing what I believed was right. Maybe in a years time I will sit down with one of them and explain why NICE is wrong but to be honest I'm not sure it will make any difference.. in the end we have to take care of ourselves.
Sorry if thats a bit heavy but I'm afraid that's how it is (at least in my experience).

I'm half tempted to do as I'm told and show up in six weeks for my next HbA1c to see if I can beat the 104 of my original test. But they would probably just double the Metformin and, as you say it's my life. With high BP and high cholesterol, surely my risk of a stroke is on the wrong side of a graph?
On a less paranoid note, my BMI is 26. That's ok isn't it?..... Isn't it?
