hello everyone

I have joined this group as my wife has been newly diagnosed with type 2,however we only fount this out after changing doctors, it seems she has had this for around 15 months but the last doctors did not inform us.

Would like any tips or recommendations please, as this site came highly recommended by my wife's new GP

Hi @peterRabbit & welcome to the forum :)

There’s lots of information, tips & ideas, have a good read around the forum and please ask any questions you may have. It’s a big learning curve and takes a while to get your head round for both your wife & yourself. Great to hear your GP recommended the site, sounds like the move to the new GP could be a positive one.

If your wife agrees & you feel you can share a bit more about what medication your wife is on for her diabetes, what her Hba1c is, what kind of thinks she likes to eat etc, what changes, if any you have made so far to tackle the diabetes, then that helps our members with helping you or sharing their experiences

Once again welcome :)

Hello @peterRabbit ,

Sorry about her diagnosis, but very glad you now have a GP who actually cares. Are there any questions either of you have, so far? We can't give medical advice here, but we do know a thing or two about a thing or two.

For what it's worth, usually there's quite a bit that can be done to get some blood sugar control back. Diet, medication, a combination of the two... She's got options.

Good luck,
Jo

Hi and so sorry to hear of your wife's diagnosis. You have come to the right place to get good advice and lots of support at a time when it must all be very confusing and scary to both you and your wife. I know I would be lost without this amazing forum. Have a mooch around the posts on here and remember the one thing that I think is so important... and that is... no question is ever silly so don't be afraid to ask. Someone will always be there to reply and help as much as they possibly can. Big hugs to you and your wife

Hello and welcome @peterRabbit

I love the name :)

Your wife is lucky to have someone that is interested in providing her with information and support.

I don't know how your wife is feeling but I know that when I was diagnosed I did not take it well to say the least. Even after discovering this site it was a long time before I was not in a distressed state all the time.

I'm going to assume that your wife is a type 2 diabetic. The type is important as there are important differences in the types. There are also important differences in how you best manage the condition depending on what type of medication a person is on if any.

Irrespective of what type and medication having a way to measure the blood glucose levels is in my view essential. Most doctors do not recommend it for type 2s who are not on medications which may cause hypos. That said- I'm a type 2 not on any medication and I think it was essential for me to test regularly particularly when I was first diagnosed.

Tell as as much as you feel comfortable. Read around the forum. Ask questions. I have always found this place to be somewhere full of amazing people only too willing to support provide advice and assistance and listen to venting.

Good luck and welcome.

Hi , I'm new here too. Got diagnosed in May 2024 with type 2 . Changed my diet to low carb and wholemeal products and doing more exercise. I love walking which seems to do the trick. I'm on 3 insulin tablets a day. 2 in the morning and 1 at night. My levels have been around 7 for a couple of months now. Any questions just ask .Andy.
