Hello I have 'lurked' for a long time and now taken the plunge with my first post! OH diagnosed around 18 months ago firstly diet controlled mow on 2x metformin per day.
He is a little reticent to find out too much about diabetes I think out of fear. I sound like a busybody but have now got a meter and have got him to test mornings and evening and to reduce the carbs he loves (one step at a time....)! I have read so much and confuse myself is it better to lower sugar levels or lose the weight. Both eventually I know and am concentrating on BG for now as I do all shopping and cooking. He is also on statins and recently starting complaining about joint pain - BG was 12.8 yesterday morning 9.7 today......I wonder if it is the statins or whether the higher BG readings. Luckily he doesn't have a sweet tooth just a carb (bread) nut!!! :-(
Look forward to learning lots here!!!

hi, welcome :) you dont sound like a busy body, just a loving wife, well done you :)

Hi. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Yes, tackle the BG first and then the weight. Fortunately usually the reduction in carbs necessary to get the blood sugar down will also help with weight loss. Having the meter will guide you on how successful you are being. Stains can cause joint/muscle pains. The only way to tell is to stop them for a while and see what happens. Simvastatin is the most problematic statin and GPs may change it to another type. Arguments continue on the true value of statins so if they are the cause of the joint pains then you may want to think about stopping them. They do cause a very small increase in blood sugar
