I am currently on a diabetic reset plan from my doctors, it’s for 12 months, but I am
About to introduce food again, so I am looking for a good recipe book to help me, I have bought a portion plate, but I need to start organizing for food.

Hello @DEERUSS , and welcome,

I'm not familiar with the diabetic reset plan, probably because I'm Dutch, but then, there's a lot of plans out there.... Could you elaborate a little on what the plan entails, so we know what direction to point you in? Because usually I'd just tell you to go for low carb or keto diet books, but.... No idea whether that gels with what you've been doing, as those don't often involve portion plates... The more we know, the better we can help, so just throw whatever information you want to share, out there for us to jump upon.

Again, welcome, and I whope we'll be able to help!
Jo

Hi @DEERUSS and welcome to the forum. Well done on trying to get to grips with your diabetes. I fear that the portion plate you have bought may be along the lines of the eatwell plate advocated by the NHS. Unfortunately these guidelines are healthy for the general public, but many of us diabetics find they contain too many carbohydrates. Carbohydrates turn to sugar once digested. Think of a baked potato for example as 19 cubes of sugar!
@JoKalsbeek who has posted above wrote this blog to explain this further, I’ll post a link below.
If you decide to take the low carb route you may encounter resistance from your medical team if they are not in the know about this approach.
Just one other thing to note, if you are on certain medications you need to be careful on low carb as you may go too low, so it would be useful to know what medications you are on.

I am not on meds for diabetes anymore (whilst on this plan) I have halved my statin and my blood pressure tablets, the plan is a complete meal replacement plan for 12 weeks, run by the NHS in the uk. eating soups, porridge and shakes, then re-introduce food for 6 weeks breakfast for two weeks, then add lunch for two weeks, then add evening meal. The plan continues into phase 3 which is the remaining months to 12 months, at the end of this I could have reversed my type 2 diabetes.
I am On week 8 of phase one (soups etc)
I have lost 1 stone 13 lbs, my blood sugars have gone from 9.7 to 5.9, my blood pressure is now 115/75 on average. But I am worried about re-introducing food, as I am not really sure what I should be eating and was looking for any good recipe books to buy on recommendations.
Thanks
Denise

You're off to a magnificent start, that's for sure! Congratulations! But yes, it is wise to plan for the future. After all this work, it'd be a shame to lose all the progress you've made. But then I stick with my earlier suggestion: low carb to keto diet books would work to continue the path you're on, once this program ends. https://shop.diabetes.co.uk/collections/books recommends a couple, you might want to have a look there. I would say though, avoid most American books... Some ingredients (like monkfruit and such) aren't available over on our side of the pond, rendering quite a few meals useless. Oh, you could check dietdoctor.com for suggestions. No need to sign up, lots of info on there is free.

Good luck!
Jo

I highly recommend any of Kate Caldesi cookbooks,(if you're lucky The Works have them) but for a low(er) carb way of eating, your protein of choice and above ground veg. Eg Sunday roast with no spuds but extra cabbage, cauliflower etc
