Hi everyone

Very nervous and new to this site and Diabetes Type 2 which my husband was DX with in June. No medication needed as they say it can be controlled via diet which we have been doing very well with he has lost over 1.5 stone in weight but I am struggling as to where to get good advice from and recipes carb counts and all that info. I read all the time but lots of things contradict themselves as in what is good and what is not food wise. I just feel a bit lost as I have found no support at all. He feels well in himself and always has and was shocked to find out he had this. But recently he has been getting headaches and I think his skin looks slightly yellow in the face I am not 100% but I am a bit worried any advice would be so gratefully received x

Hello and welcome.

A very good book for carb and calorie counting is Carbs & Cals, which you can order from Amazon - the proper book rather than the pocket version. It has thousands of food stuffs, all with photos on plates showing the portion sizes, with weights, carbs, calories, protein, fat, saturated fat and fibre. It was my bible when I first started.

Your husband has done brilliantly to lose that weight, so he (and you) have made a great start. Please have a good read round these forums. There are loads of idea, recipes, and suggestions. Basically, it is all about reducing carbs as much as possible. All carbs turn to sugar once in the system, so for diabetics Carbs = sugar. He could also try adding a bit more exercise. Even a 20 to 30 minute walk each day will help. Please feel free to join in with us and ask whatever you wish.

Yellow indicates liver so he HAS to see a dr and get a consultant referal to a liver specialist.
Your dr should waxk him straight through no questions....many yrs ago l was at the dr for whatever and in innocence as l was walking oit the door asked why l go yellow....by christ l was back in the room before 1 more step...blood forms in hand and all results to consultant. Poked more blood scanned all sorts.

Upshot is l am lucky l have Gilberts which is not a known problem and l live with it....however as he is not in his early 20s as as l was. It is even more critical to be checked as he is older Make an appointment tomorrow as soon as he can get to a dr.

Sorry if the above scares you but dont hang around where yellow appears. With luck it will be your eyes need testing :-)
