Hello, my name is Ted

why? after diet, exercise, weight reduction .. were you over 6.5% after 3 months? is so, it's recommended that you move up the ladder

No Jack but on diagnoses I was over 10% and had symptoms. That puts me right at the top from the very beginning. No escalation. No hope! All I can say is that I'm glad I'm not in the US

Hi, an HBa1C of 6.5% is definitely not too low. The reference is what a typical non-diabetic achieves and this can be below 6%. Yes, Gliclazide can cause hypos if the islet cells are still in a fairly good state and you take too much. So, as usual control the carbs and portion sizes, achieve a good BMI and if the HBa1C is not below around 6.5% then Gliclazide may still be worth taking but watch the dosage. Ref use of insulin, it's not necessarilly a good idea if you are overweight and not already controlling the carbs as it may then result in being even more overweight. Insulin is most useful when you have failing islet cells i.e. have low insulin in the blood and this may be associated with being underweight, LADA etc
